The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) is seeking a Staking Engineer. Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager, this individual will be responsible for the preparation of analysis, design and drawings for the CBPU electrical distribution system to include, but not limited to, the construction of new distribution lines, system improvements and joint use of poles and conduit systems. This position will also coordinate and support the Electric Department as well as outside contractors during construction and field activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
- Coordinate construction activities with field crews, contractors and/or developers
- Prepare switching orders, tagging orders and commission new assets and facilities
- Prepare detailed drawings, cost estimates and material lists for distribution line construction, system improvements
- Monitor Inspection and Maintenance programs for electrical distribution assets
- Produce design documents and drawings in CAD to facilitate operations and construction activity
- Review and prepare technical specifications for projects, to include but not limited to, equipment selection, sizing, location and routing for public works infrastructure
- Coordinate permit requests for joint use of poles, conduit systems and right-of-way access
- Assist with vegetation management program and tree trimming efforts
- Support the recording, filing and retrieval of as-built drawings
- Provide support and documentation to support locates for utility assets
- Administer, develop, maintain and support engineering, mapping, GIS and modeling systems
- Utilize data to recommend capital projects to develop and improve municipal operations
- Provide technical support during emergencies including electrical outages, water main breaks, adverse weather events and asset locates
- Collect, enter and maintain engineering data to include municipal records, plans and maps
- Perform various technical services for operation, inspection and maintenance of various municipal projects and assets
- Coordinate and support projects across multiple departments and organizations
- Perform all other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient with specialized industry related software and applications such as WindMil, AcSELerator, Fluke Energy Analyzer and/or AutoCAD
- Understanding of municipal and utility operations and terminology
- Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment
- Skill in preparing charts, graphs and reports
- Proficient use of office computers, printers and software applications, to include but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Well organized and attention to detail
- Knowledge of proper safety procedures
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Drafting, Surveying or related discipline
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in an electric utility preferred
- Project management experience preferred
- Construction activity experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license
