Role Summary:
Flowserve is seeking a driven and detail oriented Applied Seal Product Engineer (ASPE) to join the Mechanical Seal Order Engineering team. The ASPE will focus on creating sealing solutions for turbomachinery. The role of the ASPE is to develop their knowledge and skill in drafting, design, and engineering so they can provide support delivering products to our customers. Typical activities for the ASPE vary but include reviewing customer engineering design requirements, design request resource planning, using CAD tools to create standard and custom product design solutions, utilizing analytical tools to evaluate and optimize design solutions, coordinating product testing and partnering with the operations team to support design questions they may have. This dynamic and collaborative position will expose the ASPE to a variety of tasks that include design optimization projects, answering product questions, providing training, supporting product performance issues
This position is a first shift, Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM
Main Responsibilities and Activities:
Review and coordinate incoming engineering design requests by consulting with customers as necessary to clarify any questions and coordinate with the appropriate resources to complete the request.
Use SolidWorks to create product assembly and component models that show product design solutions for applications that range in complexity from the standard product offering to highly customized one-of-a-kind designs.
Use and interpret the appropriate engineering tools (such as FEA) to evaluate, analyze, and optimize product design against the customer applications and requirements.
Partner with the operations team and provide any required technical guidance to support delivery of product to the customer.
Coordinate customer product testing by creating test plans and tester assembly drawings and coordinating with the appropriate testing departments.
Reference and apply product standards, engineering standards, and design standards whenever possible to aid in decision making and alignment with best practices.
Complete product improvement and sustainment projects for the various product lines
Apply Lean manufacturing principles throughout the seal design process to reduce waste and promote value added design features.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design Technology, similar technical discipline is required.
Export compliant requirements - U.S. Citizenship Required
Up to 10% travel may be required to other Flowserve sites, Customer sites, or Vendor sites.
Skills:
Prior experience using SolidWorks is highly desired.
Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills is required.
Able to understand and apply engineering principles to support product design and analysis.
Must be able to work as part of a team and independently to take ownership of tasks and deliver beyond our customers' expectations.
The candidate must have great interpersonal skills with an emphasis on collaboration and communication skills.
Understanding of continuous improvement concepts with a desire to improve the current state of products and processes is desired.
Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office Product Suite required.
Familiarity with analytical tools like ANSYS, CFD, or other FEA software is desired.
0-5 years of engineering experience preferred.
