The music therapist plans and implements a comprehensive music therapy assessment, and treatment, and evaluation plan inclusive of interventions under the Scope of Practice of the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT). These interventions can include (but are not limited to) those that fall under the receptive, re-creative, improvisatory and composition domains. Working with the medical orders of referring physicians and interdisciplinary team care plans, the music therapist chooses materials and interventions appropriate to their patients individual needs and designs sessions to achieve therapeutic goals using a strengths-based approach.
Basic Function and Responsibility:
- Provides diagnostic evaluations and comprehensive individualized treatment for patients with psychiatric illnesses in a child and adolescent inpatient setting.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and carry out specific assessments and treatment interventions in an individual and group setting.
- Provide education and in-service training regarding Music Therapy to patient, families, staff and others.
- Consult with other members of the multidisciplinary team to appropriately address identified patient needs during Music Therapy sessions.
- Assist in the establishment or modification of Music Therapy policies and procedures and guidelines for practice.
- Maintain equipment and supplies.
- Plan and implement additional Music Therapy Sessions, i.e., special events, patient/family workshops.
- May participate in research and write/present papers.
- Applicant must have excellent skills at communication and teamwork.
