Evaluate new product designs, working closely with Packaging Engineering Team to ensure optimum manufacturing capabilities utilizing Continuous Improvement and manufacturability designs. Evaluate current manufacturing processes to improve efficiencies using Continuous Improvement and Lean methodology as well as analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout. Work with department managers, operators and equipment manufacturers to define improvements and provide guidance during implementation. Forecast market demand, plan for materials and schedule workflow in the production floor accordingly. Create process documentation, operational work instructions, and other supporting documentation as required to support Highlight’s operations and the customers’ needs. Validate production processes using statistical methods to provide world-class manufacturing capabilities and maximum effectiveness of equipment and processes. Collaborate with sales and other engineering departments to ensure that Highlight’s products and processes exceed customer requirements. Lead Kaizen events and facilitate improvement teams. Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor and materials costs, reviewing production schedules and estimating future requirements. Prepare and present project reports, test reports, status and monthly activity reports, and manufacturing studies to keep the supervisor fully aware of activities and progress. Use formal problem-solving approach to issues identified by Production. Communicate with different departments to meet the customer deadlines and requirements. Use knowledge of Packaging industry, packaging machines, quality testing tools and techniques.
Requires a Master’s degree in Product Design & Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or closely related field, one year of experience as an Industrial Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Supply Chain Engineer or closely related occupation, and six sigma certification (Green Belt or above). Also requires one year of experience with direct manufacturing, production planning, inventory planning, and new products development; carrying out cost optimization and process optimization projects; MS Access based database system; lean manufacturing/6 sigma principles (including value stream mapping, 5S, House of quality); and SPC and process control implementation.
