About this Opportunity
As a Contract Manager 1, you'll manage and control service agreement contractual and pricing-related activities. This includes, but is not limited to, the development, negotiation, administration, and implementation of Herman Miller service agreements with our customers.

Acquire and maintain an in-depth understanding of internal Herman Milller operating practices and computer systems.
Acquire and maintain an understanding of furniture services market situations, opportunities, competitive activities, pricing trends, and dealership and department capabilities.
Act as a single point of contact with other Herman Miller departments and subsidiaries regarding service contractual activities. You will negotiate and document all agreements with these departments/subsidiaries that pertain to contractual commitments.
Assist in formulating strategies for winning outcomes that balance the interests of all involved parties and achieve customer satisfaction.
Develop and nurture productive working relationships with regional sales personnel, dealer personnel, and other internal partners as needed to perform all essential duties.
Develop finely-honed contract management skills in a variety of service business situations.
Initiate action with appropriate personnel to ensure internal partners are aware of, understand, and comply with all active contracts/services agreements. You will provide legal assessments of Herman Miller's contractual obligations and rights as requested by internal partners.
Keep other Herman Miller departments and/or subsidiaries informed on service contract development progress and provide any needed documentation and consultation to same which ensures their compliance to all customer commitments.
Maintain a work-in-process contract/services agreement document control system. You will maintain all in-process contract files/documentation in a consistent, orderly, and organized fashion, and ensure the appropriate contractual documentation is provided for entry into storage system. You should be prepared to provide a timely update on contract negotiations and/or contract status on an "as requested" basis.
Develop commercial subcontract service agreements with Herman Miller dealers and/or agents as needed. You will ensure subcontract service agreements used are complete, accurate, and professional, and are issued in a timely fashion.
Participate in team negotiations as appropriate. Service negotiations may be conducted face-to-face with customers or by telephone conference call.
Perform additional requirements as operations may require in support of achieving business objectives.

A Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or equivalent applicable work experience.
Three to five years of previous business experience with at least one year of successful contracts work in a capital goods industry or professional services.
A working knowledge of contract law and the Uniform Commercial Code.
A working knowledge of all antitrust legislation, including Robinson Patman and Sherman-Clayton Antitrust Act.
Well-developed problem dispute and conflict resolution skills.
Strong interpersonal and human relations skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly sales and services negotiations.
Strong analytical skills in finance and accounting.
Strong organization, time management, and process management skills.
The ability to work effectively with different customer contacts, purchasing agents, attorneys, and facilities designers, and anticipate individual needs.
The ability to interact effectively with others in an empowered team environment.
A demonstrated ability to effectively use the office automation, communication, software, and tools currently being used in the Herman Miller office environment.
The ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.
