Support the facility mold operation by designing molds for the plastic injection mold industry. Handle design tasks and functions for assigned products or projects. Assist engineering with development projects. Interact routinely with customers, co-team members, business units and division management to communicate all customer-related information and ensure premier customer service.This is a salary non-exempt position.
Essential Functions:*Make fully dimensioned 3D models to tolerance drawings and specifications*Completion of mold designs from beginning to end*Perform quoting for new and existing molds*Review and provide feedback on internal designs*Interface with external customers and internal design team on tooling specifications*Interface with internal process engineers on mold designs*Coordinate mold design review meetings*Work with 3D models and 2D drawings*Create and maintain organized records and documentation of current projects for the department*Verify setup, offsets and tool compensation of CNC equipment*Set up and create new programs and processes on CNC equipment*Order machine tooling for mold production*Order mold tooling materials*Coordinate with mold tooling outside services*Use gages and various inspection tools to verify dimensions and tolerances*Maintain inventory of tooling and consumable requirements for the CNC machinery*Trouble shoot molds once they are in service*Perform these and all other duties as assigned by Supervisor or ManagementRequirements:*All team members are expected to keep their work area clean, organized and maintain a high level of safety and quality*Ability to communicate effectively with other team members, including between shifts*Ability to proceed on work assignments with minimum supervision or assistance*Ability to follow verbal and written instructions*Ability to work independently and in a team environment*Ability to work within High Performance Team (HPT) guidelines*Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including spelling, grammar and composition*Requires advanced computer and math skills*Ability to successfully problem solve/trouble shoot to resolve tooling and mold related issues and other analytical methods applicable to related requirements per standards and specifications*Ability to read and interpret required paperwork with high degree of accuracy*Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude*Requires occasional travel*Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time when doing computer work*Must be able to stand for extended periods of time when involved in projects on the floor*Must be able to stand, sit, reach, bend, twist, reach overhead, walk and carry molds, materials or product occasionally during an 8-hour shift*Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. occasionally during an 8-hour shift*Must be able to tolerate a mold shop environment which includes fumes, dust and oil*Must be willing to work overtime if requiredThe job description is intended to describe the general nature of this position and is not an all-inclusive list of duties performed by employees assigned to this position. *Associates degree or working towards a degree*Minimum three years' experience in a mold shop environment*Minimum three years' experience in mold design*Experience with hot runner mold designs/principles preferred*Proficient in Microsoft Office, Pro Engineer, Pro Mold and Auto Cad Inventor*Proficiency in Hurco, Fanuc, Bridgeport and Proto Trax Controls*Experience or familiarity with design tooling, jigs and fixtures*Experience with unscrewing, hot runners and over molding*Experience and familiarity with CNC programming and using CAM software to program equipment and transfer data*Must possess a good understanding of injection mold process, particularly plastic resin, fits and tolerances and industry standard practices
