Job Description The Role The Release Train Engineer is a servant leader and coach for an Agile Release Train (ART). They are the Lead SCRUM Leader for the ART and assist the teams in delivering value by communicating with stakeholders, removing/escalating impediments, managing risks, and drive relentless improvements. The Release Train Engineer has a solid grasp of how to scale Lean and Agile practices, as well as understands the unique opportunities and challenges associated with facilitating and continuously aligning a large development program. Responsibilities * Manage and optimize the flow of value through the ART and Solution Trainusing various tools, such as the Program and Solution Kanbans and other information radiators * Establish and communicate the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs) * Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a Continuous Explorationprocess which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap,and Backlogs, and throughPre- and Post-PI Planning meetings * Facilitate the PI planning event * SummarizeTeam PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives(the RTE) and publish them for visibility and transparency * Assist tracking the execution of features and capabilities * Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings, including the ART sync meetings * Assist with economic decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams and the roll-up to Epics, where necessary * Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters inLean-Agile practices and mindsets * Help manage risks and dependencies * Escalate and track impediments * Provide input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks * Encourage collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering * Work with Product Management, Product Owners, and otherstakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment * Improve the flow of value through value streams by improving and assessing the practices associated with DevOps and Release on Demand in the Continuous Delivery Pipeline * Help drive the Lean User Experience (UX) innovation cycle * Understand and operatewithinLean Budgets and ensure adherence to Guardrails * Works with the System team to facilitateSystem Demos * Drive relentless improvement via Inspect and Adaptworkshops; assess the agility level of the ART and help them improve * Foster Communities of Practice and the use of engineering and Built-In Quality practices Additional Job Description Requirements * BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science * 2+ years of Automotive Engineering experience with demonstrated technical and professional skills in Systems Engineering and/or Embedded Controls Development * Demonstrated leadership, organizational agility, collaborative spirit, and interpersonal skills to effectively lead an AGILE Release Train. * Highly developed and demonstrated communication skills, oral and written, to facilitate SAFe events like but not limited to PI planning, Inspect & Adapt, and Scrum of Scrums to obtain alignment effectively across a large organization of business managers, people leaders, and engineers. * Proficient at analyzing unusual and complex issues utilizing problem solving skills to identify dependencies and issues while driving for results in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment. * Regularly exhibits the following Release Train Engineer Traits: * Listens and supports teams in problem identification and decision-making. * Creates an environment of mutual influence. * Understands and empathize with others. * Encourages and supports the personal development of each individual and the development of teams. * Coaches people with powerful questions rather than use authority. * Thinks beyond day-to-day activities; apply systems thinking, short/long term planning. * Supports the teams' commitments. * Is open and appreciates openness in others.
