Job DescriptionMachining ManagerSummary:The Machining Manager oversees all functions of the Machining Department at the plant level for Port City Group, a Pace Industries business. The Machining Manager serves as a cross functional team leader, working closely with internal and external customers and suppliers to facilitate operations and maintain the effectiveness of the Machining Department. The Machining Manager will oversee and delegate the actions needed to meet customer demand and drive continuous improvement. These actions will include but not be limited to, staffing, scheduling, personnel management and driving continuous improvement activity. Additionally, the Machining Manager will be instrumental in launching new business, succession planning and culture development. The Machining Manager will work with departmental supervisors, engineers, leads, techs and operators to develop each team member to their next level. Striving to ensure that everyone is working on training their own replacement in order to promote growth and facilitate timely promotions.Duties and Responsibilities:•Know, comprehend, and support the deployment of company policies and procedures.•Expected to practice and maintain the highest level of professional character in dealing with internal and external needs.•Indirectly oversee all other Machining department personnel.•Must be comfortable working with very tight tolerances, coordinating efforts between production and CMM departments to ensure all testing methods are adhered to and, when necessary, reaction plans are developed and executed to resolve issues.•Operate within planned budgets, strives to improve financial performance and profitability.•Ensures safety measures are considered and that appropriate measures are taken to promote safe operations for all employees.•Working with the Engineering Department, the Machining Manager will ensure manufacturing standards are established and disseminated appropriately as new business is acquired.•Provide resources and coaching as necessary to improve metrics.•Lead efforts to improve productivity, efficiency, uptime and changeover time.•Meet with department regularly to discuss performance to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Lead efforts to improve productivity, efficiency, uptime, and changeover time.•Oversee the development process, track performance, and provide resources to meet goals.•Work with the EHS Department to ensure compliance with all OSHA and other state/federal safety and environmental rules and regulations.•Other duties, tasks, and actions as necessary, required and/or assigned.Position Requirements:•Bachelor's degree in Management, Engineering or other technical discipline is preferred (equivalent years' experience will be considered).•Experience in departmental management in a manufacturing setting. Well versed in IATF and ISO standards for quality and environmental management systems.•Lean/Six Sigma problem solving abilities and skills mastery.•Must have expert understanding of problem-solving concepts and techniques. Must be able to lead teams and work independently as necessary to resolve daily issues and manage projects as necessary for continuous improvement purposes. Serves as a mentor for direct reports in the understanding and implementation of problem-solving tools.•Personal computer skills are required, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
