Summary
This position is within the Forestry Operation department managing forestry clearing activities of LVD, HVD, and gas pipelines across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The essence of the work that is performed in Forestry Operations is maintaining safe and reliable electrical service to customers by supervising the safe trimming and removal of trees along the Company's overhead power lines. Manage the portion of the urban and rural forest growing near overhead power lines. Maintaining and preserving all components of the urban forest, including parks, greenways, and street trees growing in the "utility strip." For some jobs in this family, professional certification or licensing may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities
Ability to interact with internal and external clients to identify, research and analyze situations to resolvehighly advanced problems

Oversight of 10-30 contract trimming crews and approving completed work that meets specifications
Supervising exempt and/or non-exempt employees and must work as a team with Engineering and Community Services employees to accomplish reliability and communication goals
Essential Functions
Formulates long and short-range plans to meet objectives of maximizing the protection of the electric distribution system and the natural forest resources
Prepares annual and monthly budgets and administers budgetary controls for area assigned
Participates in analyzing and recommending changes in existing forestry contractors, the forestry organization and in formulating new organizational patterns and roles needed to meet current and future objectives
Reviews and coordinates activities among service foresters and staff to maximize effective use of personnel, funds, and equipment; gives direction in setting and attaining company objectives
Reviews and evaluates subordinate employees' work performance
Advises and assists management in design and development of systems to evaluate programs
Analyzes feedback received from evaluation systems and directs modification of programs
Inspects various phases of Forestry programs on a periodic basis
Utilizes GPS, GIS, computers, and computer programs to produce desired maps, charts, tables, and reports
Is responsible for completing forestry work plans (miles targets) within budget guidelines, addressing work needed to ensure reliability, addressing customer requests for work and addressing customer concerns for work being performed
Oversees 10-30 contract trimming crews and approving completed work that meets specifications
Supervises employees and must work as a team with Engineering and Community Services employees to accomplish reliability and communication goals
Responsible for managing revenue generating work activities in a geographic area including bidding jobs and managing work to ensure positive returns
Typically manages a budget of approximately $1 million dollars and oversees the contract workforce used to complete this work
Regular attendance is expected
Requirements/ Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Forestry OR equivalent combination of education and experience
2+ years of exempt work experience in Forestry Operations
Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions
Must live or relocate to 30 miles of service territory
Must have a valid state driver's license
Must have access to reliable transportation
Must have a willingness to travel as work requires
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 90% of time spent in specific field locations.
