Neuroscience (7 South - Butterworth)
- 22 beds (14 beds for our stroke unit and 8 rooms for epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU))
-Population: The primary populations served include adult patients (18 years and older) with stroke and epilepsy. Secondary populations include new onset seizures, general neurology, and medical surgical patients.

-Orientation: Orientation is based on individual needs. The length can vary and be adjusted if needed. Orientation is started on days, and then you're transferred to hired shift.
-Why 7 South: Neurosciences is an exciting specialty where you learn something new every day. Each patient is unique to their symptoms allowing for the team to develop great critical thinking skills. Spectrum Health/ 7 South is West Michigan's first Level 4 epilepsy center as designated by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). There is dynamic collaboration amongst multiple disciplines to provide safe care to patients with epilepsy while developing treatment plans that have a goal to allow for a better quality of life. 7 south is also part of the comprehensive stroke center with an established 14 bed stroke unit. There is constant collaboration with the neurovascular team in providing care to the stroke patient population. 7 South utilizes a closed staffing model. Great teamwork is essential in the acute care setting and is one of the greatest strengths of 7 south.
Education - Associate's Degree or equivalent in Nursing Bachelor's Degree in of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 4 years for those who start in this RN role on or after January 1, 2017 Bachelor's Degree in of Science in Nursing must be obtained within 7 years for those who start in this RN role between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2016
Experience - Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program

National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification (NIH) BW/BL: 3H, 4S, NCC, 7S, 1H, SCC Neuro core nurses BW/BL: Emergency Department Charge Nurses (from appointment date) 60 Days

Peds Emergency Assessment (PEARS) HDVCH: All hired into their first nursing role since licensure - all areas 1 Year
RN - Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support (STABLE) HDVCH: NICU 1 Year
Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nursing (ARIN) Radiology 2 Yrs
