Position Summary: The Licensed Practical Nurse performs direct patient care activities for assigned Hospital patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse. Provides direct and indirect care in the patient care setting. The Licensed Practical Nurse is held accountable to the ethical and professional standards as defined in the ANA Code for Nurses, the ANA Nursling’s Social Policy Statement, the State of Michigan Public Heath code and the ANA and Specialty Nursing Standards of Clinical Practice. The LPN is also accountable to adhering to the standards set by regulatory agencies such as but not limited to the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), Conditions of Participation of Healthcare Finance Administration (HCFA), and Michigan Occupational Health and Safety (MIOSHA). These accountabilities require individual competency in nursing practice, and the recognition and responsible acceptance of individual actions and judgments.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Contributes to the assessment of the patient.
- Contributes to the planning of patient care.
- Utilizes the NIS system for charting and documentation of patient care information.
- Provides direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Evaluates quality of care given by self.
- Communicates effectively with patients, family and health care team.
- Assists in the orientation of new staff and nursing students.
- Supports the philosophy, goals and policies of the Department of Nursing and the Nursing Unit.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Education – Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nurse Program
- Licensed in the State of Michigan.
- BLS certified.
- Basic computer knowledge/experience.
Preferred:
- Five cumulative years experience in Surgery, Recovery Room, ICU or Emergency Room.
