The floor care specialist is the frontline employee responsible for maintaining the appearance and longevity of all flooring types across campus. To be successful in this position requires the ability to lead, plan, and coordinate work; and the foundational knowledge of how to maintain all flooring types. This position primarily works independently. This employee may also perform general custodial duties.
High School education or equivalent. Five years' experience with floor care. Valid Michigan Driver's License. Knowledge in all types of floor maintenance such as, VCT, LVT, Ceramic and quarry tile, grout, carpet tiles with moisture backing, broadloom roll carpeting, polished concrete, and terrazzo. Knowledge of Concria & 3MM Trizac diamond honing methods. Demonstrated ability to select, maintain, and operate floor care equipment. Demonstrated ability to create and administer a flooring maintenance program. Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate the work with others. Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral and written directions. Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image. Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develops a training schedule and trains others on floor care technics and equipment. Develops a written floor care evaluation. Monitors floors within area of responsibility ensuring proper maintenance and repair. Maintains the appearance of floors by stripping, waxing, refinishing, polishing, and extracting all types of flooring. Maintains a deep understanding of asbestos composite tile maintenance. Researches and recommends new technology to include auto-scrubbers, robots, carpet extractors, high speed burnishers, swing machines, and dry or low moisture extractors. Performs other duties as assigned.
