Trainer, Manufacturing and Operational Focus
DESCRIPTION
Overview: To support the scoping and execution of key training within Merrill machining operations. Facilitate and lead manufacturing process improvements.
Specific Duties*: Lead the development and implementation of Machinist career development strategies across all company machining operations. Contribute to the development and execution of training and education programs to be conducted within the corporate strategy. Create and drive process focused solutions throughout the machining and manufacturing value stream to improve overall operating costs, labor costs, and product quality. Advance the continuous improvement process on a machine-to-machine basis. Support technical recruiting to ensure internal recruiting practices net the best possible candidates. Recruiting effort may include external activity.
Objectives: Support operational retention rate goal of newly hired machinist's and place all new trainees into a permanent position within 24 months of hire date. Create and execute feasible work plans and tactics that meet overall strategies, objectives, timing, resources, and budget. Work with Plant Managers and HR to properly define and update Cross Training Matrices to ensure up-to-date and accurate employee information. Serve as the new employee Mentor, complete new employee checklists, and provide first line support to new employees. Design and develop training material and conduct training across different machines for new Machinists. Help and support new and existing employees to understand company KPI's and how to positively impact each metric. Serve as key point of contact, and work with Mechanical Engineers for planning, scheduling, and executing continuous improvement through the manufacturing processes. Accountable for the implementation and documentation of cost reduction/cost avoidance each quarter. Define, scope, and manage programs and tasks required to support strategic initiatives to be addressed as part of the overall effort. CNC and CNC SR machinist duties are required by Plant Management on a percent basis each week depending on plant needs.
Authority: Oversees all Machining training and drives Machining CI processes at multiple locations.
RELEVANCE AND IMPORTANCE OF POSITION TO QUALITY OBJECTIVES: Ensure training programs are up to date with company demand and requirements. Also ensure all programs are designed utilizing experiential, project-based learning methodologies.
