Job Description This position is responsible for leading the engineering team in charge of the development and execution of robust validation plans for propulsion systems. It is expected that the EGM will use their ability to empower employees to drive work output. Our people leaders exhibit positive GM behaviors with a focus on safety and inclusion for their team! Activities will include managing both System Validation Engineers (SVEs) responsible for creation and execution of engine and transmission ADV plans and Validation Engineers (VEs) executing vehicle level validation tests in support of both traditional powertrains and electrified propulsion systems. The EGM is also responsible for managing/coordinating shared usage of vehicles required for testing and the team's efforts to move physical testing into the virtual space. Additional Tasks: * Provides technical leadership to engineers * Manages overall engineering execution with other departments, functions, suppliers (globally) * Translates business objectives to actionable deliverables for workgroup * Leads team to meet targets (cost, quality, timing, etc.) * Prioritizes work based on available resources, forecast future growth * Lead global teams to deliver results for regional development activities, data analysis and test procedure generation and automation * Proactively assess and revise standardized work to improve the team's effectiveness, efficiency and drive organizational change * Trains, develops, mentors, and manages employee performance * Standardizes and integrates new processes and methods into GPDP * Leads selection of new employees * Reviews and approves engineering documentation * Train, develop, mentor, and coach employee performance to foster a strong teamwork culture * Models and fosters desired core values and behaviors Additional Job Description Required Skills: * Bachelor of Science in Engineering * 5+ years of relevant experience (outside of co-op and internship) * Prior Release and / or Development / Validation experience with propulsion hardware, software or controls, and / or full vehicle systems * Highly developed oral and written communication skills * Demonstrated ability to manage a group of technically oriented engineers and break down roadblocks to successfully complete projects. * Strong interpersonal skills to establish and build relationships to foster a collaborative environment and to reach common work goals effectively and efficiently * Ability to build and maintain an environment that enables all participants to contribute to full potential * Strong problem-solving ability and conflict resolution skills to identify and remove roadblocks Preferred Skills: * Master's Degree in Engineering About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
