Job Description About the Role: The Telematics and Network Services Assistant Program Engineering Manager (CX APEM) will lead global cross-functional teams in the planning and execution of sophisticated programs. This is a high visibility role that holds overall delivery responsibility for assigned programs. The individual in this role will drive aligned efforts across the Customer Experience, Global Connected Services, Vehicle Engineering, Connected Customer & Mobility Solutions, GM IT organizations, and external companies including mobile network operators. About the General Motors Customer Experience Team: GM's Customer Experience Team innovates and drives business value with solutions that provide outstanding user experiences across the GM ecosystem. The Customer Experience Technical team crafts these experiences across all vehicle, back office, and channel technologies to build a collaborative, holistic, and global end-to-end customer journey. Assistant Program Engineering Managers (APEMs) construct the technical plan and lead the execution from concept through launch and life cycle planning Major Duties/Responsibilities: * Lead cross-functional teams to define, architect, plan, develop, and validate GM's connected services and foundational enablers. * Conduct technical feasibility and alternative tradeoff assessments * Drive and coordinate resource planning and estimation efforts * Integrate with technical teams to ensure aligned understanding, clear requirements, and integrated execution plans * Understand and influence architectural deployment of core requirements to specific implementation components (back-office and on-vehicle) to assure that the execution is robust and consistent with core strategies. * Develop a comprehensive project plan that clearly enumerates all design, implementation, integration, and validation steps required to execute project timing. * Lead & maintain clear status of each affected area and provide clear communication of status to appropriate leadership both internal and external on ongoing basis. * Contribute to the SAFe & Agile process within IT as well as support the broader Customer Experience Technical Team during the product development and delivery framework. * Coordinate delivery across vehicle engineering, cloud teams, MNOs, and other parties. Required Education and Qualifications: * 5+ years of relevant technical and program management background * Demonstrated ability to effectively represent and negotiate critical partner/customer needs within with GM, and vice versa while maintaining reputation as a trusted and valued partner. * Strong experience in communicating cross-functionally, across management levels, both within the company and with key partners or customers in both formal and informal settings. * Experience leading execution of projects where features impact both embedded device and cloud applications (i.e. "connected features") * Ability to travel as necessary to GM facilities, supplier facilities and other locations as needed to fulfill job responsibilities * Demonstrated ability to lead multi-discipline teams to achieve enterprise goals * Demonstrated ability in developing cutting-edge consumer and enterprise applications * Solid background in both distilling business needs and translating them into the ideal technical solution(s). * Strong technical background with proficiency in software engineering and technical service delivery * Proficient knowledge in aligning roadmap deliverables to the IT portfolio to ensure planning for compliance with standard, remediation of technical debt, and to expose opportunities for application rationalization * Extensive background in sequencing and timing of features that entails matching delivery to customer needs * Solid experience in engaging business partners to determine value that will be considered as part of economic value, trade off decisions, or path to realization. * Ability to pull together a cohesive customer experience across all platforms and channels driving for understanding of the customer at the enterprise level * Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or the background and experience that demonstrates a similar level of strong technical skills and practices Additional Job Description Preferred Qualifications: * Experience leading connected vehicle or IoT programs for a major OEM or Service Provider * Significant experience working with mobile network operators to deliver connectivity solutions * Experience as a feature owner or similar tech lead role. * Experience in a customer- or supplier-facing account management role, or similar experience with navigating business or contractual issues with a major partner or customer * Understanding of the vehicle development process and key milestone requirements at one or more automotive OEMs * A master's degree in a technical discipline, or the background and experience that demonstrates a similar level of strong technical skills and practices * Demonstrated knowledge in multiple software development methodologies (i.e. Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.), and demonstrated success integrating output from teams with differing methodologies * Direct experience as a software developer is a plus About GM Our vision is a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion and we embrace the responsibility to lead the change that will make our world better, safer and more equitable for all.
