The Dean of Transfer Programs and Online Learning ( DTPOL) promotes teaching and learning in the Divisions of Science and Mathematics, Arts and Letters, and Social Sciences. The Dean is responsible for ensuring that all pathways and programs in these divisions transfer cleanly to 4-year schools, and that the General Education curriculum prepares students for their education and careers after Delta. The Dean works with the Vice President of Instruction and Learning Services to advance the College’s Strategic Plan, and, in that context, the Academic Plan. The Dean is responsible for a focus on academic excellence and continuous improvement in the areas of enrollment, retention, and completion, learning outcomes assessment, faculty development, pathways to workforce and transfer institutions, all without opportunity gaps. The Dean is also responsible for developing and then overseeing the College’s Online campus and supervising the e-Learning office. The ability to grow and sustain relationships with faculty, staff, and students are essential in helping the College move forward in its mission as an open access institution focused on equity, retention, and completion. In addition to providing leadership for several academic divisions and online learning, the DTPOL works with Faculty, Associate Deans, the Dean of Career Education and Learning Partnerships, as well as staff and administration in Student Educational Services, and Business and Finance to support credit bearing instruction and meet community needs. This position oversees the planning and coordination of the learning environment, and ensures that all academic processes promote and enhance learning. Supports the College’s mission, vision and values by providing academic, administrative and fiscal leadership. Participates actively in the work of the College. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Ensures internal processes support academic pathways that are aligned with 4-year institutions for transparent and seamless transfer, or directly into the workforce. Makes connections with external audiences to ensure that programs align with public schools, transfer institutions, and job opportunities. Aligns year-long course schedule to meet completion of established pathways. Ensures that connections with advising support students’ academic and career goals.
- Curriculum and Assessment: Supports faculty in creation of new curriculum and developing and monitoring course and program outcomes. Supports a comprehensive schedule of program and course level assessments. Leads faculty in discussions of assessment, continuous improvement and equity in student learning. Ensures faculty in implement changes in courses and programs based on documented assessment. Ensures compliance with internal and external curriculum and assessment needs.
- Ensures all courses and programming meet standards set by the Higher Learning Commission, Delta College policy, procedure, and employee contracts.
- Promotes quality assurance protocols for online course design via the recommendation of relevant Council on Innovation, Belonging and Equity (CIBE) committees, faculty-led committees, and administration.
- Ensures integrity of academic programs by collaborating with Dean of Career Education and Learning Partnerships and Faculty on curriculum development, program assessment, and program review.
- Works with the Dean of Career Education and Learning Partnerships, Associate Deans, Director of Learning Centers, Dean of Student Success, and Dean of Enrollment Management, in developing the class schedule to maximize use of faculty loads and space resources, including providing optimal scheduling for the Centers and other off campus opportunities.
- Promotes faculty training and professional development that supports best practices in instructional design, development, and delivery, and promotes instructional innovation in the use of learning technologies that enhance teaching and learning in online, remote, hybrid, and web-enhanced instruction.
- Highlights successes and recommends improvements by collecting, analyzing, and reporting data related to student learning, enrollment, faculty training and professional development, and other variables as they pertain to outcomes assessment, scheduling, enrollment management, accreditation, and strategic planning.
- Leads and incorporates innovative approaches to class scheduling and student retention.
- Works collaboratively towards establishing goal setting, reporting and feedback cycle with Associate Deans as well as faculty. Ensures goals and reports align with College’s strategic plan and priorities.
- Seeks alignment of academic strategies and projects to reduce silos and enhance cooperation between divisions and departments.
- Coordinates with the Dean of Career Education and Learning Partnerships for the development and administration of Division budgets including forecasting staffing, equipment, materials and supply needs with assistance from the Academics Finance Manager.
- Helps lead Academic Services in innovative practices in communication, collaboration between College departments, committees, and projects as assigned.
- Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints by students, staff, faculty and the general public. Serves as a resource for faculty and staff regarding student behavior and concerns. Refers concerns related to programming to the Dean of Career Education and Learning Partnerships.

Additional Experiences Considered |
- Doctorate degree
- Community college teaching experience
- Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes and/or program review
- Experience with inclusive teaching practices such as culturally responsive pedagogy, OER, open pedagogy, and/or Universal Design for Learning.
- Familiarity with the Higher Learning Commission accreditation processes.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with college transfer, career and technical programs, dual credit programs, and in the assessment of learning outcomes preferably in a multisite, large comprehensive community college.
- Demonstrated leadership and support in driving alignment, growth and equitable outcomes of student completion and success.
- Demonstrated collaboration with faculty and campus leadership to plan, develop, support, and implement curriculum and instructional activities, including assessment; provide curricular oversight of the assigned areas of responsibility.
- Evidence of collaboration with faculty and campus leadership to implement college initiatives that promote student success and improve access for historically underserved populations.
