POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The Broadcast IT Engineer is responsible for monitoring the technical aspects of the broadcast operation including the installation, proper operation, and maintenance of a wide array of state-of-the-art computer-based systems used for modern day television and radio broadcasting. The Broadcast IT Engineer is also responsible for maintaining Delta College Public Media’s IT infrastructure and must be experienced with baseband digital video and audio, real time and non-real time digital video/audio compression technology, television broadcast automation, television traffic systems and digital television broadcast delivery. This position monitors all broadcast signals and provides emergency on-call maintenance as scheduled and necessary to maintain broadcast operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:Broadcast Operations
- Performs the setup, configuration and maintenance of all hardware and software based broadcast equipment. Maintains all video and audio interfaces, video, and audio over IP for broadcast and digital distribution, and multiple software operating systems and applications.
- Works with all broadcasting departments (Production, Programming, Traffic, and Development) and assists with local productions, staff technical needs, appending logs, monitoring EAS, and all MCR operations and related hardware and software maintenance.
Compliance Monitoring
- Monitors the technical aspects of the broadcast operation, including all radio and digital television broadcasts.
- Monitors all broadcast equipment to ensure it is operational, maintained, and repaired, also recommends and performs preventative maintenance according to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Performs broadcast diagnostic testing, inspection and calibration of all transmission systems, required monitoring, metering and control systems as well as any repair or adjustments that may be necessary to keep the station in FCC, FAA, and other mandated regulatory compliance.
Technical Assistance
- Provides technical assistance with all broadcast operations when required.
- Assists the Chief Engineer with all broadcasting tower and transmitter operations, maintenance and client contracts; including all required engineering studies and equipment installations and removals.
- May assist broadcasting management and other college departments with the facilitation of various infrastructure improvement and maintenance projects as assigned.
- May provide technical assistance with Delta College academic operations when required.
Equipment Acquisition and Maintenance
- Assist the Chief Engineer with broadcast equipment planning, determining equipment specifications and purchasing requisitions, creation and evaluation of technical bid specifications, equipment maintenance, and creation of detailed system design specifications for Radio and Television.
- Performs broadcast equipment installation and maintains installation documentation.
- Performs additional equipment monitoring and maintenance as assigned.
Emergency On-Call and Disaster Recovery
- Provides emergency on-call maintenance as scheduled and necessary to maintain broadcast operations during weekends, holidays, and evening hours. Must be able to ascertain when a problem exists and be able to take appropriate corrective actions to ensure Delta College Public Media stays on the air.
- Assist the Chief Engineer with disaster recovery planning and disaster recovery assistance as needed.
