M&A Client Development Services Manager
Who You'll Work With
You will be affiliated with our North America offices, ideally working within US Eastern/Central time zone, as part of our Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Insights team, and will report to the Director of Client Development Services for People & Organizational Performance (POP) and M&A.
The M&A service line is a special initiative across McKinsey's Strategy & Corporate Finance practice and POP growth platform. McKinsey's M&A service line helps our clients achieve superior results across buy- and sell-side mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, IPOs, joint ventures, and alliances. M&A Insights spans colleagues located in India, Costa Rica, and the United States, bringing our clients unrivaled M&A expertise, deep industry knowledge, a global network of expert practitioners, and a focus on building institutional and executive capabilities to strengthen M&A programs long-term.
As Manager of Client Development, you will be a thought partner to M&A service line leaders. You will help deliver our mission, shaping the overall strategy and supporting priority opportunities. You will also collaborate with the M&A Insights team, leveraging and strengthening analyst expertise to support with insight- and knowledge initiatives, as well as with consulting teams on priority proposals.
Day-to-day, your team may consist of a mix of 2-4 integrative consultants, M&A Insights analysts, and client development analysts. As your role will be part of McKinsey's Client Development Services path, you will also engage with a robust community of practices (i.e., other client development managers, client development advisors, proposal strategists, designers, competitive insights and market intelligence specialists, etc.) outside of M&A to innovate and share best practices.
What You'll Do
You will be the day-to-day leader of the M&A Win Room, McKinsey's client development and competitive proposal engine for M&A. Your role will include a unique blend of strategy, operations, content expertise, communications / design, and project management.
You will help to shape and lead execution of the client development strategy for M&A, to enable McKinsey to be "at the table" at the most critical moments of our clients' M&A journey. You will partner with M&A service line leaders to strengthen how we communicate McKinsey's M&A value proposition (via qualification packs, client testimonials, multimedia, etc.), and apprentice colleagues on M&A and client development via staffing/rotation to the Win Room. You will also establish an operating model that accommodates short-term colleagues of different roles and tenures.
Working closely with the M&A Insights team, you will triage and support M&A client development and proposal-related requests. You will consistently innovate how the M&A service line supports proposals at scale. You will build personal and team credibility as a client service team (CST) counselor on M&A, as well as on client development and competitive proposals.
In addition, you will generate actionable competitive insights by conducting proposal debriefs with CSTs, partnering with practice management colleagues to track and analyze proposal win/loss, and by scanning the competitor landscape. You will institutionalize competitive capabilities by codifying learnings, strengthening existing assets and developing new ones in collaboration with subject matter experts, and by disseminating best practices through trainings and other channels.
You may be required to travel occasionally for trainings, leadership or team meetings, service line events, and conferences.
