The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks a full-time Coding Specialist to join their team in Iron Mountain, Michigan.
The ideal person for this position is someone organized, detailed and who can follow through on a project from start to finish while remaining positive. This position mainly supports coding for the Emergency Department by assigning diagnosis and procedure codes to medical records for patient visits, assists in maintaining insurance credentialing, and uses a variety of computer systems in order to maintain and process data.
RESPONSIBILITIES.
- Interpret medical information from medical record and assign proper ICD-10-CM and/or CPT-4 codes.
- Efficiently and accurately use software systems to enter diagnosis and procedure codes.
- Audit charts on a regular basis for assurance of practitioner and any exceptions.
- Maintain and complete documentation for multiple clinics and professional insurance credentialing.
- Follow policies, procedures, and compliance standards established by hospital and supervising staff.
- Maintain effective and professional communication with hospital staff, patients and vendors.
- Commitment to staying current with coding industry and maintain AAPC or AHIMA credentials.
WAGE/BENEFITS. Starting pay of $18.48 – $27.67 per hour based on years of experience. In addition, position offers medical, dental, vision, retirement plan, paid time off (sick, vacation) and life insurance.
SCHEDULE. This is a full-time, Monday – Friday position with shifts 6am-2pm, 7am–3pm, 8am–4pm, or as assigned.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS.
- Medical Coding Certificate from AAPC or AHIMA, or Associates degree in a directly related field of study.
- 1 year experience in a healthcare business environment preferred.
- 1 year coding (ICD-10-CM, CPT-4) experience preferred.
- Proficiency with computers and office software including experience with computer-based practice management software.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Professionalism, sound judgement, and ability to exercise resourcefulness in solving problems.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a professional demeanor that ensures trust, competence and compassion amongst patients, team members and vendors.
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-hire drug screening and background check.
