General Summary
The testing and commissioning of systems will require coordination between all disciplines of engineering, project management, contractors, and equipment suppliers. These projects are focused on new construction, system upgrades and various machinery health and condition monitoring projects aimed at improving plant productivity and reliability. Activities include, but are not limited to; the preparation of comprehensive commissioning plans, preparation of test packages, which would contain electrical, Instrument & Control (I&C) and mechanical activities such as:
Electrical - Initial testing of apparatus, cables, control circuits, motors, protective relaying, etc.
I&C - The calibration of instruments; stroking of valves, dampers, etc.; functional testing of control loops; etc.
Mechanical - Verification of fluid levels, alignment verifications, Piping & Instrument Drawing (P&ID) verifications, equipment labeling, etc.
Work in the project area will require close coordination with Project Managers, other Enterprise Project Management (EPM) personnel, plant engineers, plant operations, outage managers, other Consumers Energy Company service departments, Architectural/Engineering firms, contractors and vendor representatives. The successful candidate will provide leadership and supervision to both employees and contractors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Advocate safety and ensure safe work practices
Oversee and manage Testing and Commissioning of EPM Projects
Work closely with Project Mgt., Engineering, Construction, Technicians and Operations
Develop Project Turnover Packages for EPM Projects
Coordinate Training for newly installed equipment
Coordinate equipment going online with plant resources
Enforce standard practices are utilized
Provide oversight to technical work groups performing checkout and startup on newly or modified existing equipment and systems
Assist in developing schedule and budget for all major projects.
Read and understand electrical and mechanical prints including wiring diagrams, schematics and P&ID's
Develop needed test packages and test records
Provide updated drawings to reflect the "As Built" condition of electrical drawings and P&IDs
Schedule all vendor supported startup of newly or modified equipment
Familiar with industrial instrumentation and electrical equipment and controls
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in a scientific or technical field and 5 or more years of working experience; or extensive applicable experience in lieu of a degree (13+ years)

Essential Functions
Supervise and consult on a complex set of activities in support of the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance of Electric Generation systems as well as facilities and ancillary support processes for all utility operations.
Perform and oversee the preparation of test packages for electrical checkout, instrument calibration and other testing verification records, I/O checkout & functional testing; factory acceptance testing; commissioning and turnover; etc.
Duties for this individual will fluctuate between projects, Practice Areas, and offices.
Provide engineering support services with accuracy and in a legal and ethical manner, on time and under budget. Assist with engineering support for the design, plans, specifications, reports, environmental impacts, contracts, schedules, estimates, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation.
Understand and follow all company established standard processes and procedures including commissioning, engineering, and closeout for projects.
Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately.
Assists in client contact and communication. Utilize effective communication skills to answer inquiries from coworkers, clients, or the public.
Attend internal and external meetings. May review operating and construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the design documents.
Individual must be able to clearly communicate with field personal to safely perform equipment checkouts.
Individual must be able to understand and comply with regulatory standards. Regular attendance is expected.
