Description
Responsible for leading the UI Engineering practice within the larger Digital Engineering team. Leads a center of excellence focused on consistent and modern front-end development practices across various consumer facing web applications (brand websites, e-commerce, microsite, and integrated single page applications), with opportunity to influence the underlying architecture.

Inside the Job
Your day-to-day work will involve:
Advocates for and provides strong technical leadership for the Herman Miller Design System.
Assigns, monitors, reviews progress and accuracy of tasks, deliverables, projects, and timelines.
Builds, establishes, and maintains positive working relationships across the broader team and business units.
Defines and communicates technical requirements and timelines across various product teams.
Drives page speed performance initiatives and creates a culture of continuous improvement.
Establishes standards for systems design, program development, and documentation.
Identifies and maintains external resource staffing relationships.
Identifies areas where there is opportunity to modernize applications and consolidate tools.
Implements opportunities for development team process improvement and collaboration.
Mentors individual team members on career development needs and aspirations.
Optimizes cross-team workflows through advanced understanding and communication of concepts.
Provides thought leadership to near-and long-term architecture decisions.
Works closely with Design, UX, Backend Developers, and Digital Product Owners to optimize UI development within system contraints.
Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.
What You Bring
Needed skills and experience for this role include:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
8+ years of experience of hands-on UI engineering experience building rich web applications
5+ years of experience leading cross-functional product teams
Previous experience leading developers in Agile team
Demonstrated high level of written, verbal, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
Strong presentation skills to communicate information, ideas, and processes in a logical sequence, at a level appropriate to the audience.
Ability to effectively partner with and influence internal business partners on decision making and creative concepts.
Experience with modern front-end development ideas and practices, including Server Side React (SSR).
Experience working with enterprise content management systems and enterprise e-commerce platforms.
Experience with modern web architectures and API driven development.
Demonstrated experience working with accessible code and following the WCAG standard.
Understanding of DevOps practices and specifically how they apply to UI Engineering.
