Position Summary
The Aguirre Lab at the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering at Michigan State University is seeking a Research Associate in the field of human development and stem cell biology. The Aguirre Lab at Michigan State University focuses on investigating the pathways that control development, regeneration and cell fate, with an emphasis on the cardiovascular system. Our final goal is to understand and harness the regenerative power within our own cells and organs for therapy. The primary goal of the successful candidate will be to characterize the role of novel bioactive lipids in human cardiovascular development and congenital heart disease. This will involve work with human pluripotent stem cells, heart organoids, transcriptomics, LC-MS and animal models. The successful candidate will mentor undergraduate and graduate students, share findings and data in lab meetings, publications, and presentations.
The environment in the Aguirre Lab is highly multidisciplinary and collaborative. The Aguirre Lab is committed to the academic and professional development of our trainees. Our lab is located in the brand-new Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ) at MSU, and has a strong core of leading scientists working collaboratively across broad disciplines including: neuroengineering, motion analytics, developmental biology, stem cell biology, systems biology, synthetic biology, regenerative medicine, chemical biology and biomedical devices.
MSU provides competitive salary and excellent benefits for the position. This position will be funded for one year with renewal for up to five years based upon funding and performance.

Required Degree
Doctorate -Biomedical Engineering or related field
Minimum Requirements
A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the biomedical sciences (cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, physiology, or related disciplines)
Desired Qualifications
Candidates must have demonstrated cell and molecular biology experience, excellent oral and written communication skills, and exceptional attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be a motivated and creative individual with a commitment to academic research who can work independently as well as in team-based projects. A background or previous experience in stem cell biology, lipid biology, cardiovascular disease, mouse and/or zebrafish animal models will be beneficial but is not required.
