Position Summary: The Editor / Project Manager creates and/or edits copy and facilitates the traffic and workflow process of all communications projects, including but not limited to: print collateral, annual reports, invitations, magazines, signage and imaging services for public relations, advertising, promotions and digital media, and helps maintain the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park brand. Areas of responsibility include advertising, promotions, web communications, and collateral materials. This position also serves as copywriter and editor.
The Editor / Project Manager coordinates departmental project tasks, timelines and traffic process toward 100% accuracy, within budget and on time. Involves working effectively with all departments to facilitate approvals. Must possess superior writing and proofreading skills and be able to work in a team environment and embrace our workflow process. Will also collaborate and develop advertising and promotional outputs in line with exhibition and general campaign strategy, both in print and digital formats. This position is responsible for editing, creating and uploading online content as needed.
Essential Functions:
• Oversees and coordinates all projects in timely fashion within a fast-paced team environment.
• Develops, embraces and updates evolving Communications workflow process
• Departmental editor, copywriter and proofreader—strong attention to art and copy details and style conventions.
• Maintains high standard of excellence based on constant improvement.
• Organizes and maintains specifications used in daily process (model releases, artist's right, production specs, sponsor recognition, approvals, print quotes, inventories, etc.).
• Manages external vendor relationships (printers, copywriters, designers, media buyers, photographers, videographers etc.). Provides specs and direction for production and cost estimates.
• Directly supervises interns and volunteers.
• Manages departmental workflow for timely completion of project schedules.
• Plans Communications budget with Director of Communications and assists in meeting budget goals (POs, quotes, planning, etc.) and budget tracking.
• Collaboration and strategic planning with other departments within the organization, including individual meetings with key staff, as needed.
• Assists Director of Communications with brand development and graphic/copy style standards for the organization, including coordination of all team efforts.
• Management of all projects.
• Oversees implementation of all media plans for exhibitions, events and general marketing efforts.
• Assists Director of Communications with obtaining and implementing Media Sponsorships to leverage the advertising budget.
Procedural Information:
• Meets with Director of Communications to discuss ongoing department progress, problems/concerns with projects, questions related to the operations of the department, ideas and suggestions for improvement.
• Multi-tasking, flexibility and quick decision-making skills required.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and responsible for time management of assigned projects to the Communications department.
• Effective leadership and pro-active communicator with supervised staff.
