The Quality Assurance Supervisor oversees the inspection and quality control procedures with regard to purchased material, in-process material and finished products to assure that quality control standards are achieved at Indiana Packers Corporation. This position is responsible for supervising quality assurance employees in a meat processing environment. The Quality Assurance Supervisor will utilize their skill, experience and decision making ability to ensure product through the production process meet all quality control standards.
Responsibilities:
- Manage attendance, scheduling, and discipline for QA staff members
- Select and hire new QA team members through interview process
- Direct and manage training program for new QA team members
- Plan and lead daily departmental meetings with tops of safety, food safety, customer complaints, and daily current issues
- Directly oversee approximately 15 QA staff members as they execute quality and food safety tasks of slaughter, fabrication, de-boning, bacon, blending, and finished goods storage operations
- Supervise completion of product quality audits and subsequent release or retention of product based on results
- Lead execution and enforcement of SSOP, GMP, SOPs, CCPs
- Enforce HACCP food safety compliance and document requirements including daily pre-shipment review
- Provide well written reports including daily shift summary to QA and Operations Management
- Complete detailed incident reports of mechanical, sanitation, and foreign material occurrences
- Develop familiarity of product specifications, including spec development
- Participate in SQF Code adherence
- Interact competently and professionally with onsite USDA personnel
- Oversee and monitor 3rd party contract sanitation tasks and pre-op inspection program as necessary
- Perform other duties as needed or required
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Animal Science, Meat Science or Food Science (will consider HS Diploma/GED and 10 years of QA experience in Food Processing)
- Previous leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, meat processing preferred
- Previous experience in QA, HACCP and Food Safety preferred
- Familiarity with USDA regulations preferred
- Knowledge of SQF Code preferred
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to work in extreme hot, cold, wet, humid, and odorous environments
- Flexibility to work on a variety of shifts (2nd or 3rd) and work overtime, including weekends
- Good computer literacy skills in Microsoft Office
- Commitment to follow safety policies and practices and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
