The Materials Manager leads the Materials and Repair and Overhaul team at the Grand Rapids facility. The Materials Manager is responsible for all material activity from receipt of raw, to delivery of finished good. This activity includes, but is not limited to, material inspection, stockroom and inventory transactions, presentation to manufacturing, WIP movement, finished goods storage, and safe shipment. The materials manager aligns people, and processes to meet the needs of customers both internally and externally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Materials Responsibilities
- Remove organizational barriers and resolve significant issues with peers and leadership.
- Leads and develops departmental staff by ensuring adequate training, clear expectations and proper level of accountability.
- Collaborate with inventory management team to ensure accurate forecasting and inventory planning
- Support revenue and inventory planning activities
- Establish, maintain, and publish KPIs and improvement targets for all assigned areas of responsibility.
- Champions lean activity in direct support and relationship to facility lean direction and business needs
- Ensures that schedules, staging’s, and stock checks are performed per the requirements
- Ensures shipping and receiving compliance within North America
- Ensures shipping, receiving and stock room procedures and practices are properly met and adjusts as needed
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Manager.
Repair and Overhaul
- Remove organizational barriers and resolve significant issues with peers and leadership.
- Leads and develops departmental staff by ensuring adequate training, clear expectations and proper level of accountability.
- Coordinates delivery commitments with the Programs Team
- Receives product into the RPN system as needed
- Evaluates warranty determinations, adjust as needed
- Determines if corrective action is necessary and assures that these actions are taken prior to product shipment
- Ensures prompt stocking, pricing, shipping, and tracking
- Works with Accounting and Programs as needed to resolve invoicing issues
- Identifies and addresses areas of concern and areas needing improvement
- Notifies Quality when trends relating to quality are detected
- Provides performance feedback on personnel when requested
Key Metrics (Not all encompassing)
- Safety: Near misses corrected, recordable injuries, days missed
- Quality: QMS Compliance, procedures validated
- Morale: Cross training %, Absenteeism, Attrition rate
- Leadtime: RO turnaround time, INVR receipt to stock, on hold days, to stage, to ship, requisition fill
- Accuracy: Raw Inventory adjustments, staging errors, shipment errors, RI errors, shipments not cleared
- Cost: Individual productivity (units stocked, staging’s picked, shipments completed), IDL % of sales, IDL:DL ratio
Job Requirements
- BA required. Degree in Logistics, Material Management or Supply Chain Management preferred
- Minimum 3 years Materials Management experience, including Inventory Management experience
- Experience with Shipping and Customs
- Minimum 5 years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferred
- CPIM Certification, preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Experience with Lean manufacturing
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
