This senior leadership role brings financial insight and decision support to the Gordon Food Service retail business division. As a partner to the Business Unit President and his leadership team, you'll be directly involved in the development of business goals and objectives, measurement of business performance, and identification of financial and operational opportunities.

The Stores Business Unit Controller provides financial insight and decision support for the Business Unit President and his/her leadership team on all financial and operational matters. They assist in the development of business goals and objectives for the Business Unit and its underlying regions and divisions, monitors all key business indicators, and proactively evaluates and identifies opportunities for performance improvement. The role will also include oversight and management for annual forecasts and budgets, long-range planning, ongoing financial reporting and staff development.
This position reports to the Vice President, Operational Finance and will also take frequent direction from the Business Unit President. Interfaces and collaborates with financial teams and the North American Shared Services group to ensure that both the business needs are being met and that the business unit is consistently complying with the financial policies and guidelines of the organization.
Among your responsibilities:
Strategy:
- Contributes business insight in the development of overall strategic direction of Gordon Food Service Store, including analysis of business, economic, and competitor trends and market dynamics
- Assists in the development of specific business strategies and objectives
- Creates accountability through the creation, development, and measurement of key performance indicators
Finance:
- Oversees annual budgeting, forecasting, capital spending and long-range planning for the division
- Monitors budget, including analysis of variances and action planning for productivity improvements
Accounting & Controls
- Manages ongoing financial reporting and ensures integrity of all business unit financial reports
- Provides support to the technology leader as to appropriate needs and priorities of technology solutions for the business
- Collaborates with GFS Credit department to ensure compliance with policies and procedures
- Safeguards Store assets through robust inventory control procedures and oversight of the Stores Asset Protection team
People Leadership
- Hires, trains, motivates, develops and serves as a resource to team of financial professionals
- Serves as a liaison for all centralized and business unit accounting functions and ensures compliance with all company and business unit policies and procedures
Does this look like you?
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred
- CPA certification preferred
- Minimum of 8 years CFO/Controller type experience in a corporate or public accounting environment.
- 3 years of previous management experience
- Professional knowledge of the retail industry required
- Must have knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ability to interpret financial information
- Strong math aptitude and ability to analyze and interpret a variety of data and business performance relationships
- Knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
- Broad business acumen that includes principles and processes related to customer service, marketing strategy, and sales techniques
- Familiarity with technology used in financial analysis -- Google Apps/MS Office, plus finance and budget related software
