Cook needed for the North Ottawa Care Center at Heartwood Lodge is a skilled nursing center located in the beautiful sand dunes in Spring Lake, Michigan.

General Purpose:
- Cook and Serve nutritious meals in accordance with planned menus and diets.
Cook Responsibilities:
- Following guidelines for thawing, cooking food, cooling food, labeling and dating food.
- Ensures sanitary preparation procedures are met by all dietary staff.
- Keeps kitchen and equipment in a sanitary condition.
- Follows menus as written and receives approval from Dietary Manager for any substitutions.
- Prepares and is ready to serve meals according to scheduled meal times.
- Assures that food and supplies are readily available for the next meal.
- Serves each resident according to resident specific meal tickets reflecting likes and dislikes.
- Ensures temperature logs are properly recorded in the kitchen.
- Assists and ensures kitchen is properly cleaned and stocked at all times.
- Assists and ensures dishes, utensils, pots and pans are properly washed following departmental and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Assists with record keeping and staff supervision.
- Demonstrates competency in safe practices and use of equipment and machines.
Cook Qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- Must possess a knowledge of cooking and preparing foods, knowledge of food service equipment and knowledge of sanitary food service conditions.
- Able to comprehend written and oral communication.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull, bend down and move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of 35 pounds.
- Must be able to tactfully and professionally interact with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agency personnel, and the general public.
- Must have a strong understanding of Infection Control.
- - Must maintain all facility-required training and education.
Education and Experience
- - High school diploma or equivalent.
- - Complete ServSafe Certification within 6 months of hire.
