This division supports technical work on projects ranging in scope from complete new electric substations down to single I&C device modifications and change-outs and includes smart/intelligent I&C devices on electric lines.Key Responsibilities•The Engineer will provide leadership and oversight for contracted projects throughout the Consumers Energy service territory.•The position will be responsible for utilizing contract engineering design services for management of the divisional workload when additional resources may be required to meet project commitments.•The employee will be expected to contribute to staffing decisions and help to shape the future direction of the Division in technology, process, managerial, and administrative areas.•Lead I&C efforts in utilizing contracted engineering design services to complete substation design services across all areas of I&C design.•Lead as the single point of contact for external design resources. Check Issued for Review (IFR) and Issued for Construction (IFC) packages. Coordinate with key internal stakeholders in the processing of IFC packages.•Coordinate and collaborate with contract design resources to meet I&C design commitments and expectations.•Coordinate and collaborate with I&C production engineers to excess workload needs.•Coordinate and collaborate with HVD Substation Design and HVD Lines Design contract group to best utilize external design resources.•Provide production support through QA/QC on projects within other section's responsibilities to level workload.•Develop and respond to project scope documents for contracted projects.•Conduct occasional field visits, usually to electric substations or generating plants, to define project scope, determine existing conditions or meet with field technical employees.•Utilize a positive attitude, strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the ability to motivate/develop others.•Coordinate and collaborate in a diverse team environment and with employees of varying technical skills and knowledge.•Coordinate with equipment vendors on various projects.•Consistently and proactively utilize strong organizational skills and technical knowledge to meet a variety of tasks.•Participation in a storm role is highly encouraged.This position will be located at the Parnell facility in Jackson, MI. Remote working options may be available depending upon circumstances.Required Qualifications•Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program•7 or more years of engineering work experiencePreferred QualificationsThe following skills will/may set you apart from others:•Control or Substation Design experience•Experience and/or knowledge with relaying / system protection•Project engineering or project management experience•Experience with renewable interconnections•CAD, MS Access, MS Excel, and/or programming skills, SAP experienceOverviewThe Engineering Job Family is utilized in those areas of the Company where engineering services are provided. Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable governmental and company laws, standards, and procedures on time and under budget.
