Department Summary
The successful candidate will work from the Grand Rapids,Michiganoffice as the Substation Maintenance Supervisor. This position provides the leadership for OM&C employees performing maintenance, construction and repairs of substation and metropolitan underground equipment in the downtownGrand Rapidsarea and will be expected to fill in on a temporary basis for other substation supervisors as needed.The individual will be expected to coordinate with various internal departments and provide weekly work schedules to System Control in support of work activities and outage planning. Candidate must have the ability to learn and utilize technology in support of maintenance activities, and be capable of promoting and supporting safe practices, procedures and employee behaviors. Must also have the ability to understand and administer the provisions of the working agreement.
Job Description/Responsibilities
- Candidate should have previous experience in the maintenance and/or operations of HVD/distribution substations.
- Knowledge and experience in the maintenance and/or operations of substation equipment is highly desirable.
- Must be able to complete complex tasks and be a team player with strong leadership skills to direct, motivate and develop employees.
- Effective planning and administrative skills for scheduling and execution of substation maintenance and construction work plans is needed.
- Excellent communication skills are required to negotiate with large commercial, industrial and metro underground customers.
- Must be prepared to take on call assignments, work scheduled overtime and be able to respond to emergency and customer equipment failures/outages as they occur (within and outside the Traverse City area).
Requirements / Qualifications
- A high school diplomaor GED.
- Prior experience in the maintenance, operation or constructionof HVD/distribution substations.

- Associates or Bachelor's degree.
- Project management experience or PMP Certification.
- Proficiency with various softwareapplications (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Cascade, TOA, SAP).

- Must be a self-starter and must possess the ability to coordinate activities amongst internal and external work groups.

Hours and Travel
- This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week with the majority of time spent in specific field locations.
- Some in state travel is required.
- Daily travel within headquarters boundaries is required.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or respond to customer emergencies during anytime of the day, including evenings and weekends.
- Individual must be willing to participate in the on call rotation.
- Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with outage restoration which may require overnight stays.
- Individual must have a valid Michigan Driver's License.
