The reporting location for the Principal Engineer - Facilities Integrity Management Program Lead Engineer is negotiable.
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
The Facilities Integrity Management Lead Engineer is a part of the System Integrity Team. System Integrity is responsible for the overall integrity management of Consumers Energy's Natural Gas Assets across Compression, Storage, Transmission, and Distribution. This position is a new role within System Integrity to account for facilities outside of existing integrity management programs.
JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBLITIES
This position provides engineering expertise (Subject Matter Expert) for gas facilities, including City Gates, Storage sites (non-well or pipeline), and compressor stations. Specifically related to separators, heater, vessels, tanks, regulators, etc. Develop and implement a facilities risk assessment program and model for utilization in integrity management. Develop and implement procedures for facilities risk assessment. This position is a critical role in the research, development, assessment, and implementation of Facilities Integrity Management. Key to this role is the development and building a sustainable facilities integrity management program to lead the industry in this next advancement and ensure the safety of the Company's gas processing and regulating equipment.
The duties and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Risk Modeling and Engineering Risk Assessment for Facilities Integrity Management Project Management
- Engineering and Technical Expertise (Subject Matter Expert) in Facilities Integrity Management
- Research and develop programmatic approach to risk assessment and evaluation for facilities within the gas delivery system that has linkages to the existing integrity management program yet is specific to the facility equipment considerations
- Establish and Implement a new integrity management program at Consumers Energy focused on facilities
- Coordinate and Communicate Risk to Facilities to Metering & Regulation, Storage, and Compression Engineering
- Develop linkages and process with engineering areas to utilize the risk assessment outputs into project scoping and development
- Support evaluation and problem solving regarding emergent integrity management threats on gas facility equipment
- Keep up with Current Codes, Company Standards, and Recommended Practices Trends (within LDC, Interstate and Outside of US). Communicate changes across the organization.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Minimum of 10 years of applied exempt engineering working experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan, preferred
- Knowledge of federal and state gas code including: Obligations required under 49 CFR 192, Michigan Gas Safety Standards and Company Gas Manuals and standards.
- Integrity and risk assessment knowledge
- Engineering principles of gas system networks and integrity management
- Process oriented to drive business results and waste elimination
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Risk Model Development and Maintenance - Research, create, and develop Facilities Integrity Management Risk Model and maintain created Risk Model
- Engineering Risk Assessment - Through the utilization of the Facilities Integrity Management Risk Model and Subject Matter Expertise, perform engineering risk assessments
- Procedures - Develop and Maintain all procedures related to Facilities Integrity Management
- Program Management - Manage all internal linkages with Metering and Regulation Engineering, Storage Engineering, Compression Engineering, Transmission Integrity Management, Distribution Integrity Management, and Gas Strategy to ensure successful management of the Facilities Integrity Management Program
HOURS & TRAVEL
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters on projects or to help with storm restoration which may require overnight stays. Individuals must have a valid driver's license.

This role will be work-from-home until our leadership team has determined it's safe to resume work in the office. At that time, this position may require 1-2 days/week travel to their selected office location. Remote work will be available for the rest of the time. Ideally the selected candidate would reside in the state of Michigan in order to commute on a regular basis to their selected office location.
