Resident/Trainee Program 2021
This is for those that have already been accepted into Metro Health's 2021 Resident/Trainee Program
General Summary:
This position entails provision of care commensurate with the house staff physician's level of advancement and competence, under the general supervision of appropriately privileged attending teaching staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Applicants with the following qualification are eligible for appointment to accredited Internship and Residency programs.
- Graduates of medical schools in U.S. and Canada accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Ability to obtain a Educational Limited License as an Osteopathic Physician, a controlled substance license, and pass all three levels of the NBOME Board exams in order to progress to residency level.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Progressively develop a personal independent program of self-study and professional
- growth, with guidance from the teaching staff;
- Participate in safe, effective and compassionate patient care in inpatient and outpatient
- settings, to include rounding on patients daily, ambulatory practice settings, surgical suite;
- Develop an understanding of ethical, socioeconomic and medical/legal issues that
- affect graduate medical education and how to apply cost containment measures in the
- provision of patient care;
- Participate in educational activities of the training program and, as appropriate,
- assumption of responsibility for teaching and supervising other residents and students;
- Participate fully in the reciprocal evaluation and peer review activities in their program;
- Participate in institutional orientation, education programs and other activities involving the clinical staff;
- Participate in institutional committees and councils to which the house staff physician
- is appointed or invited that relate to patient care;
- Perform these duties in accordance with the established practices, procedures and policies of the institution, and those of its programs, clinical departments and other institutions to which the house staff physician is assigned; including, among others, State requirements for physicians in training.
- Participate in the on call schedule, with an average of 6-7 nights of call per month.
- Participate and eventually perform independently: clinical procedures, surgeries and deliveries as pertinent to the residency program.
- Maintain membership in state (MOA) and national (AOA) organizations, and specialty college associations.
- Maintain appropriate state licensure.
- Complete medical records on a weekly basis and turn in monthly paperwork according to department policy.
