Job Description Seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Site Lead who is responsible for health and human safety programs, processes, and compliance with additional direct management responsibility for Environmental Engineering. As a leader in employee engagement, this role is designed to support, influence, and lead various plant wide efforts and initiatives. In addition, this role acts as a safety coach and advisor to the site, providing support and technical assistance in the administration of and compliance with federal, state, local, and company HSE requirements. This position could require travel of approximately 10%.
Located in beautiful Northern Michigan, Reed City is a manufacturing facility of approx. 420+ dedicated employees serving the Dairy Operating Unit. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop and implement safety leadership programs designed to achieve an injury-free workplace. This position works directly with the Plant Leadership and Operations teams to proactively identify, prioritize, and implement safety behaviors, programs and initiatives
- Foster a world class, engaged culture that delivers safe outcomes and behaviors with employees across the plant and shifts
- Develop, mentor and energize the plant central safety committee teams to achieve sustainable results
- Mentors, develops, and builds capability in site HSE Process Owners
- Develop a holistic safety strategy and plan for execution through the integration of Manufacturing Operating Principles, key tenants of Propel, Loss Tree data, and other key inputs. Serve as a process owner for this plan to ensure the plant leadership team is following a robust PDCA cycle and delivering on our plan
- Provide expertise on OSHA, workers compensation claim management, incident investigation, incident root cause analysis, and other compliance initiatives to ensure the facility meets all corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Manage safety on-boarding and training process and maintain required training records
- Engage the plant in regular safety audits and Near Miss reporting; develop remediation solutions for audit and Near Miss findings and present remediation recommendations to the plant leadership team
- Monitor, analyze, and report safety metrics and performance for the facility. Identify and implement continuous improvement strategies
- Partner with the Corporate Safety Team to share learnings and implement General Mills safety programs, best practices, policies and procedures. Ensures site HSE risk analyses are performed and communicated to Facility Manager, Central Safety Committee, and Regional HSE Leader
- Collaborates with other Pillars/business functions and participates in special projects as assigned
- Serve as GMI Safety representative on trade association panels and committees
- Complete ownership of medical case management/workman's compensation program in partnership with HR
- Direct ownership of planning and leading plant wellness activities
- Ability to prioritize and understand that we are changing a culture and actions must speaker louder than words; an engaged culture can't help but work safe
- Oversee written safety programs, policies and procedures, including plant-specific daily safety communications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, or Safety Management
- 5 years of site level Occupational Safety Leadership or manufacturing operations experience and program management experience
- Working knowledge of local HSE regulations
- Leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, and project management skills
- Strong written & oral communication skills
- Proficient in key computer software applications
- Experience in food and beverage manufacturing or related field
