The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for managing supplier quality initiatives for all purchased parts to Viking in the Caledonia and Hastings facilities. This includes the planning, coordination and direction of New Product, Current Production, and customer issue resolution activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Engage with engineering teams and support personnel in improving supplier quality objectives.
Reviews sample submissions from suppliers and/or vendors for dimensional accuracy.
Responsible for all activities of incoming materials inspection, including the development of inspection requirements.
Lead in the containment, root cause and correction of daily supplier quality issues.
Lead cross-functional teams assigned to fix systemic supplier related issues.
Use of problem solving techniques including DOE, Greenbelt, 3x5 Why.
Develops documentation methods for presenting, reporting, maintaining, and archiving of supplier performance data.
Provide creative analysis of data and identification of new opportunities for process improvement.
Participates in New Product launch process, conducting design reviews with respect to Quality requirements of new products, develops gauging plans, control plans and PFMEA.
Leads the reviews of results and gives approval to supplier PPAP submissions
Drives the application of PPAP, APQP, PFMEA, MSA, Control Plans and SPC with the supply chain.
Participates, as required, in support of Engineering Change Notice (ECN) and Engineering Change Request(ECR) processes.
Assist Technical Services department with investigative activities associated with supplier related customer returns.
Acts in accordance with ISO9001 to support the external customer experience during advanced corporate and quality planning activities.
Conducts supplier visits to review product quality processes and as required visits end-product user facilities to identify quality issues.
Notifies the Director of Quality of any problems which adversely affect product quality.
Exhibits and promotes safe work practices.
Participates in defining and executing business unit goals.
Monitors housekeeping of area and controls sample retention.
Participates in defining and executing business unit goals and objectives for scope of Quality Management Systems beyond local manufacturing site as defined by Management.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in engineering or quality-related field with two(2) to four(4) years of successful work experience in a quality related role. Must have strong statistical experience, ability to read Engineering drawings within a 'quality testing' and 'quality analysis' environment.
Ability to use statistics and capability analysis to review suppliers and internal information to identify trends, draw conclusions, and implement change.
Ability to interpret and translate GD T requirements into manufacturing and measurement methods.
Ability to conduct systematic problem solving projects.
Ability to differentiate between symptoms of problems and root cause.
Possess superior communication skills
Be self-motivated and hands-on.
Minimum of four(4) years experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, AutoCad and PowerPoint.
Travel to Hastings facility a minimum of 1 -2 days per week
