DeWys Manufacturing, Inc is seeking a Value Stream Leader - 1st Shift
Directs, coordinates, and performs production activities of a specific value stream in industrial organization by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews, prioritizes, and sequences dispatch schedules generated by the Materials and Scheduling Team to meet customer scheduled delivery dates. Identifies personnel requirements to complete the schedule for the shift. Coordinates with HR and the OM to get additional resources if need be. Identifies to the OM operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems in the VS to minimize costs and prevent operational delays review quality issues and corrective actions.
- Conducts weekly meetings reviewing/setting goals for the following performance measures. 6-S, On-time, Utilization, Workload, Resource needs, Team member concerns, CI, Quality, Safety, MRO.
- Completes weekly audits in their areas for Preventive Maintenance schedules, LPA (Layer Process Audits).
- Continuous Improvement: work on set up reductions, own the value stream map of the area, create and maintain standard work, create and maintain work instructions, work on WIP reductions, inventory reductions, production smoothing.
- Determines the skill and knowledge requirements of each team member in the VS in conjunction with the OM. Schedules appropriate training with Process Trainer.
- Performs frequent quality inspections with new team members; team members unfamiliar with the product; and problem parts identified by the Quality Team Facilitator. Responsible in addressing all quality issues (internal and customer) with team members. Identifies preventive and corrective actions to ensure mistakes do not happen again. Complete 8-D process on quality issues or process related issues.
- Completion of TEA or Dale Carnegie leadership training program. Has been or is involved with a user group to help bring new ideas into DeWys.
- Responsible to start up equipment at week beginning and ensure equipment is shut down at end of week.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs reviews in conjunction with the OM. Conducts counseling for employees. Identifies personnel issues to the OM.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with 5 or more years experience in manufacturing, preferably metal fabrication; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Leadership training.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as blueprints, work orders, engineering specifications, safety rules, work rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information, communicates, and responds to questions from team members, customers, and suppliers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divides in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Must pass the DeWys competency test.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must possess good problem solving skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License to be licensed as a qualified lift truck driver at DeWys Manufacturing, Inc.

- While performing the duties of this job, the team leader is regularly required to stand; team member is frequently required to communicate with fellow team members and walk throughout the VS. The team member is occasionally required to sit while performing administrative duties. Team member may on occasion be required to climb, balance, and crawl underneath machines when performing necessary repairs or maintenance. The team leader must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

- While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The team member is occasionally exposed to high places, fumes and airborne particles when performing grinding operations; and toxic and caustic chemicals when cleaning tools. Team member is also exposed to outside weather conditions when unloading sheet metal supplies. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud requiring hearing protection to be worn at all times. Safety glasses must also be worn at all times by team members.
