Position Overview:
The Plant Utilities Technician role is part of the maintenance organization and will assist in general maintenance job duties, including line and plant support.
Main Responsibilities:
- Maintain plant ammonia refrigeration system. Troubleshooting and repair.
- Maintain all requirements of the Ammonia Engine Room Operator Level (see ARM Entry and Operator checklist)
- Respirator Fit tested and qualified to use.
- HAZWOPER certification. (OSHA 1910.120(q)(6)(ii)(iii))
- Achieve and Maintain RETA CARO certification.
- Maintain plant compressed air and vacuum systems. Troubleshooting and repair.
- Maintain plant HVAC systems. Troubleshooting and repair.
- Maintain routine maintenance checks of the boiler system. Troubleshooting and repair.
- Maintain and order boiler chemical checks/usage for water treatment.
- Capable of troubleshooting/replacing pumps and valves
- Must complete all routine PM's and maintenance of above-mentioned equipment. Must do cleaning of evaporator coils and smaller roof top units. Must change filters on routine basis. Must complete PM functions and keep documentation up to date.
- Shall work in other areas of the Reed City plant, as required.
- Understand and perform PM on Utilities/Facilities Equipment.
- Complete daily inspections and repairs of ammonia, glycol, steam, and pump house.
- Complete routine maintenance on air handling systems: bearings, belts, check filters.
- Execute blowing down of boilers.
- Complete daily inspections and repairs on air handling systems.
- Complete daily inspections and repairs on compressed air and vacuum systems.
- Wear radio for communication with MTL's and TLs.
- Assist with ultrasonic preventative maintenance routes.
- Train on new and additional equipment.
- Use Maximo system for work requests, work order initiation, planning and scheduling work orders.
- Use Maximo system to order spare/replacement parts, build parts in maximo.
- Adherence to company safety policies.
- Maximize efficiency of facilities assets.
- Suggest and recommend outside vendors for support.
- Must be a self-starter. Able to see issues in the plant and take appropriate action to get the work done.
- Self-motivated: Able to prioritize the weekly work orders and get them completed each week if possible.
- Able to take direction from multiple people during the day.
- Eager to communicate back to the person on the floor that is having the issue you are dealing with.
- Willing to work on major projects that come into the plant.
- Able to work with others and will need to communicate what each person is doing in the plant.
- Truthful and trustworthy. If a mistake is made communicate immediately.
- Other duties as assigned in Job description and by MTL's and TLs on shift.
- Qualified candidates will have knowledge of the following:
- Refrigeration cycle.
- Steam and its components.
- Air compression for the plant's equipment.
- Room air pressurization for mold issues.
- PLC controls
- Vacation will not be concurrent between the utility technicians in the plant.
- The position will require being on call for emergency situations.
- Overtime as required to complete plant ammonia integrity check
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience in Ammonia Refrigeration
- RETA CARO Certification or operator level training
- Proficient knowledge in:
- Refrigeration cycle
- Compressed air & vacuum systems
- Room air pressurization for mold issues
- PLC controls
- Ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems
- Plant hot water/steam boilers & controls
- Maintenance CMMS Program (Maximo)
- Willing to work different shifts for emergencies or with vendors
- Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
- Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, a hard hat, a hair/beard net and gloves when required
- Respirator fit tested & certified
- 50 lb weight lifting as required by the position
- Willing to work around industrial high speed moving machinery
- Ability to work in confined space such as bins, silos, or tanks
- Ability to work at a tobacco-free site, except for designated areas
