Indiana Packers Corporation, a large-scale pork processor, located in Delphi, Indiana is looking for an experienced Processing Assistant Superintendent.
Reports To: Bacon Superintendent dotted line to Operations Manager
Position Summary
The Processing Assistant Superintendent will directly oversee the 2nd shift bacon and blending operations at Indiana Packers while ensuring the product meets customer and company specifications. They will establish a standard performance expectation and train staff to meet them.
Core Responsibilities:
Provide strong technical, operational, and project management skills, to drive consistent manufacturing of various bacon and blended trim products.
Confer with Bacon Superintendent and Operations Manager to confirm Bacon Department production expectations.
Manage the daily department operation of all areas for which he/she are responsible and ensure production goals and standards are met, including safety of associates and quality of product.
Drive Team Member engagement, training, and development, to maximize department safety, quality, yields, and production.
Partners with the internal maintenance group to ensure operations staff are appropriately trained in how to operate special equipment, the equipment is operated properly, and equipment downtime can be minimized.
Selects, organizes, trains, and motivates processing team members to ensure consistent attainment of processing schedules at optimum productivity and cost levels.
Ensures effective use of operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and to improve product quality.
Recommends modification of machines and equipment to improve processing and quality of product.
Provide leadership for assessing and enhancing department capabilities while maximizing efficiencies.
Must possess the ability to analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPI) data to drive process improvements.
Ensure regulatory compliance including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, USDA, and FSIS.
Ensure all quality standards, specifications, and policies are met or exceeded.
Develop a culture based on open and honest communication and involvement of all team members.
Guide, develop, and counsel direct reports to ensure they are performing to expectations.
Promotes a safe working environment for department team members. Ensures accident investigations are completed as required, including making and implementing any recommendations for policy changes, operational impacts, or procedural changes.
Monitors to ensure appropriate Operations, Safety, Sales, and HR, reports are completed and maintained in a timely fashion as directed by the Superintendent.
Assist with customer and or other vendor audits as needed.
Education and Experience
3-5 years' managerial/supervisory experience in bacon or smoked meats processing is strongly preferred.
Five plus (5+) years of bacon curing and slicing.
Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and leadership applications within a manufacturing environment.
Strong communication and analytical skills.
Strong management experience with a demonstrated ability to lead a large and diverse workforce.
Ability to delegate work responsibility.
Strong coaching skills, including but not limited to strong organizational skills, planning, multi-tasking, effective communication, and conflict management.
Possesses excellent computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Products.
HS Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Must be able to pass e-verify.
