We are looking for someone who is passionate about connecting Ypsilanti area residents with local foods. This position requires in-person interaction with vendors and the community, physical set-up and tear-down of market equipment, and computer skills. No academic degree or prior experience required. This is a year-round part time position with 20 hours per week November through April, and 30 hours per week May through October. Must be available on most market days: Tuesdays 12pm - 8pm (year-round), Saturdays 6:30 am-2pm (May - October) Pay is hourly at a rate of $16 per hour.
Position Responsibilities:
Market-day operations including set-up and take-down of market tents, signage, and equipment
Drive market truck and trailer with equipment to market on Saturdays
Enforce rules and regulations and manage conflicts at the market
Operate food assistance token program with interns and volunteers
Assist with data collection, entry, and reporting
Provide technical assistance to vendors selling through the Ypsi Area Online Market
Assist in aggregation and distribution of local food through the Ypsi Area Online Market
Additional duties based on interest and ability may include: social media management, community outreach, food and nutrition policy work, volunteer management
Qualifications:
Ability to do physical market set-up and tear-down
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Available to work market days Tuesday and Saturday
Comfortable adjusting to variable work conditions (i.e. all weather types) and changing priorities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Outstanding customer service skills
Proficient math and computer skill
Preferred background/knowledge in Ypsilanti, local food systems and/or food assistance programs
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn new skills
