Position Summary
Performs and coordinates laboratory experiments involving cell culture, animal studies and animal tissues; assists in planning of studies, data collection and analysis; compiles results and prepares information for reports, publications and presentations; maintains research records; presents work in lab meetings; conducts and assists in laboratory assays using biochemistry, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology; oversees lab operations and supervises student employees mainly on basic lab techniques; oversees compliance with safety regulations; orders supplies and assists in lab set-up and maintenance, media/buffer preparations, autoclaving etc. This is a full-time position and the candidate must be available to work Monday – Friday.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques, animal handling, cell culture and molecular biology techniques, and laboratory maintenance/management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
A master’s degree in science or one to three years of demonstrated laboratory experience; experience working with cell culture and animal studies; laboratory maintenance and student supervision; knowledge of basic statistical tests commonly used to analyze data from laboratory studies; basic molecular biology and biochemistry or immunology/immunohistochemistry experience; microscopic analysis of animal tissues; use and calibration of laboratory equipment; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database and/ or publishing software. Work experience with skin and/or eye tissue will be helpful but is not desirable.

Description of End Date
This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

- Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort).
