General Summary:TheDirector of Nursing is a registered professional nurse who provides leadershipand management of a specific service line through the application of advancedcompetencies in communication; job knowledge, professionalism and businessskills. This leader is a member of the chief nursing officer's administrativeteam and may serve as her/his designee for assigned responsibilities. He/shereports to the nursing operations leader and demonstrates own leadership toeffectively partner with nursing leadership, hospital vice presidents, medicalstaff and other departments to create a center of excellence for their specialtyservice and to meet or exceed the hospital's mission, vision and goals. Thisleader administers to two or more cost centers with over 50 FTEs.Areas of Responsibility:Under general direction, maintains 24-hourresponsibility and accountability for providing leadership and management of adesignated patient care units/service line which promotes quality nursing care,cost effective use of resources and professional growth for nursing staff.Essential Duties:1. Providesdirection and leadership to achieve the division's short and long-term goalsand outcomes.2. Develops and achieves annual Division goals that supportthe Mission and Vision. Updates nursing strategic plan progress quarterly withwritten plan for improving targets not being achieved.3. Manages the Human Resources of the units to ensure theachievement of Department Goals including employee satisfaction, staffretention, and performance while optimizing resource consumption.4. Oversees hiring, training, evaluation and engagement ofstaff members, ensuring Patient Experience behaviors are demonstrated always.5. Develops staffing patterns for division based on budgetedhours per patient day.6. Demonstrates leadership skills, consistent with systemMission and Vision to select, train, develop, empower, coach, delegate workassignments, and evaluate performance.7. Demonstrates commitment to process and performanceimprovement and role models the concepts while assuring high quality and safetyof service within the department. Holds division managers accountable for Plan, Do, Check, Act process for allunmet quality targets including action plans and follow up.8. Develops and oversees capital and operations budgets forthe department and leads the yearly process for budget development with alldirect reports. Maintains operations of the division within fiscal andproductivity guidelines as set forth by annual budgetary process, while holdingmanagers accountable for targets.9. Collaborates with nursing management and medical staff topromote smooth, timely, and efficient patient throughput.10. Communicates effectively and consistently with alldivision reports including weekly meetings, 1:1 monthly meetings for feedbackand follow up, and quarterly division retreats to assess progress towarddivision goals.11. Participates in activities that promote good will and/orexposure in the community.12. Develops and implements a personal development program toassure continuing professional growth.13. Maintains current nursing license and any additionalVisa's/Certifications.14. Demonstrates Customer Focus, Patient Experience, andPatient and Family Centered Care.15. Participates in and leads activities associated withMagnet goals for the organization.16. Ensures and enhances facility, safety, and regulatoryoutcomes including TJC, CMS, National Patient Safety Goals and compliance toRestraint/Seclusion policies and procedures.17. Completes all mandatory training/education/competenciesrequired for job classification, along with TB testing and flu vaccinerequirements.18.
