Department Summary
The Renewable Generation team in Generation Operations has responsibility to operate and maintain Consumers Energy's growing fleet of wind and solar generation assets. We are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the assets CE is developing as part of the Clean Energy Plan execution as part of the MPSC approved Integrated Resource Plan.
This position is located at the Gratiot Farms Wind Project in Middleton, Michigan and reports to the Plant Business Manager - Wind & Solar.
Job Description/Responsibilities
This position provides leadership for the Cross Winds Energy Park and Gratiot Farms Wind Project sites for Generation Operations.
The Renewables Senior Field Leader I supervises Renewables Field Leaders and may supervise other salaried employees. Is responsible for developing direct reports in business knowledge and leadership skills. Functions as a quality/lean practitioner and problem solver. Executes the implementation of key operational projects or problem-solving initiatives. Leaders in this role have the ability to perform effectively and efficiently in all aspects of the prescribed operations management systems.
Will execute the implementation of key operational projects or problem-solving initiatives. Will play a significant role in hiring and developing Renewables Field Leaders.
Supervisor may direct OM&C employees in the safe operation of power plant equipment, investigating and identifying equipment/system deficiencies, train, lead and participate in local/state training and certification committees, and communicate with, develop, and coach OM&C employees. While not a primary role, the successful candidate must be willing to work back shifts and holidays, be available for on-call, and periodic weekend duties as needed to support the needs of the business unit.
Requirements/Qualifications
- A High School diploma or equivalent.
- 6 or more years of applicable exempt work experience or equivalent non-exempt work experience, to include experience in electric transmission, distribution, and metering or generation and at least 3 years of successful performance in the Field Leader role or other comparable supervisory experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of safe work practices and procedures; the aptitude to learn plant operations; demonstrated leadership capabilities including the capacity to lead change efforts in a competitive business environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical knowledge and experience with a bargaining unit workforce.
- Knowledge of SAP work management system, Job Planning and eSOMS electronic tagging systems.
- CE Generation experience and procedure knowledge.
Certifications
NOTE: This position requires satisfactory completion of a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) background check required under NERC regulations.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluation and supervision of employees assigned to the operation and maintenance of Renewables systems.
- Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed repair orders and the status of jobs in progress.
- Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assures satisfactory completion and plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required.
- Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
- Implements preventative maintenance programs.
- Individuals should exemplify safe work practices and follow the Company's compliance standards.
- The successful candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
- This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent at a specific plant location.
- Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with outage activities and could be given very short notice to do so.
- Individual should be willing to participate in the on-call rotation.
- Individual will have to work outside of assigned headquarters to interface with a geographically spread organization which may require overnight stays.
- Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the business, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime.
- Individual must have a valid driver's license.
- Travel will be up to 50% due to the location of the headquarters this position supports.
