About this Opportunity
As a Vice President of Operations, you'll direct, coordinate, and lead all production/manufacturing operations activities for assigned facilities. You will ensure objectives are achieved on a timely basis at the lowest cost (within financial resources), and meet quality requirements. You'll forecast, develop, implement, and administer plans for efficient facilities, staffing, and material utilization. You will also delegate authority to key leaders in Production, Production Control, Methods, Cost Accounting, Maintenance, and related operations.

- Participate in the development of manufacturing strategies and be accountable for strategy execution in assigned facilities.
- Ensure compliance with Herman Miller policies, practices, and standards.
- Ensure safe working practices are followed.
- Achieve area goals including target levels demonstrated by data on the following key performance measures: reduction of service issues, customer orders delivered complete and on time, overdue customer orders, lead time profile improvement, regional profitability improvement, regional sales growth, margin improvement, and expense budget control.
- Achieve exceptional levels of team member engagement through regular and open communication, two-way feedback at all levels, and an environment where issues can be openly raised and positively received at all levels of leadership.
- Coach and mentor leaders and team members, design and delegate appropriate workloads, and build development plans to ensure career success by participating in succession planning activities.
- Develop and manage a strong Operations leadership team who are customer-focused and able to work within both local legal requirements and Herman Miller company culture.
- Ensure a consistent and high-level team member experience is achieved across the facility.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the premises to reflect the highest standards of professionalism.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have...
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related discipline. Significant equivalent operational experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. A Master's degree is preferred.
- 10 years of experience in progressively responsible production management positions, specifically experience with the manufacturing and assembly of highly variable products on relatively short lead times with significant fluctuations in volumes.
- Five years of management or leadership experience across multiple functions and/or previous executive leadership experience.
- An expert ability to think strategically and execute tactically.
- The ability to use a broad business acumen and holistic perspective to see the opportunities and risks of potential trade-offs.
- Proficiency with P&L responsibilities and are profit-conscious.
- A strong aptitude for leading through influence, setting direction, and delivering results.
- Successful experience with change management principles and the ability to drive and manage the change process from strategic planning through implementation and follow-through.
- Strong relationship and consensus-building skills to manage projects in a complex matrixed environment.
- The ability to lead, influence, and work with all levels in the organization.
- Expert written/verbal communication skills and the ability to present complex concepts in a concise and understandable way to a variety of audiences, including the highest level of the organization.
- Excellent coaching, mentoring, and people development skills.
- Demonstrated leadership competence as defined by Executive Competencies, including the ability to effectively focus resources to implement a business strategy, generate excitement and commitment around the vision and goals, and drive innovation and change.
- The ability to use the office automation, communication, software, and tools in the Herman Miller office environment.
- High personal performance standards, the desire and ability to continuously learn, and a results-oriented workstyle.
- The experience and ability to manage across cultures and countries.
- Experience managing in a unionized manufacturing environment.
- Spanish or Portuguese language skills (preferred, but not essential).
- The ability to travel within the US and internationally on a regular basis for at least 25 percent of the time.
- The ability to perform all essential job functions of the position with or without accommodations.
