GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director, Retail Operations, is responsible for the general management of merchandise planning and implementation, including the development of proprietary products within assigned merchandise classifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Develops and implements merchandise plans.
• Responsible for inventory control and storage.
• Procures educational products relating to the Museum’s collection including buying from vendor sources as well as development of proprietary products.
• Performs market and vendor research to identify trends and new product opportunities. Negotiates with vendors to ensure maximum gross margin opportunities.
• Merchandises special exhibitions and events.
• Supplies product information for point of sale.
• Ability and desire to work effectively as a team.
• Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum three years retail experience.
• Strong creative abilities.
• Ability to identify market trends and perform within budget parameters.
• Ability to work closely with vendors and Museum curators in the development of new products.
• Strong management and communication skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with superiors, staff, volunteers and members of the public.
• Travel may be necessary.
• Flexible work schedule as needed.
