SUMMARY
The Executive Chef is responsible for all food production, menu development, food purchasing, and recipe specifications. This person will supervise food production and dishwashing staff and maintain highest professional food quality and sanitation standards. This individual will develop and monitor the budget for food and labor related to the kitchen department. Responsibilities include preparing or supervising production for all food items for Hagerty Center events; menu planning, pricing and costing and recipe standardization; managing all aspects of kitchen safety and sanitation, and controlling monthly food inventory, cost of goods and kitchen staff labor. This individual will show attention to detail and have good analytical skills. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, actively listen and develop a rapport with staff members in order to be an effective leader in the kitchen.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES and LICENSES
Required:
- Demonstrable ability to organize recipes and production with excellent time management skills
- Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years’ experience as Executive Chef or Sous Chef in kitchen operation with conferencing/banquet/large event functions
- OR
- Associate’s degree plus 5 or more years’ experience as Executive Chef or Sous Chef in kitchen operation with conferencing/banquet/large event functions
Preferred:
- CEC Certification for Executive Chefs
- ServSafe Certification
- Budget experience
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises one Sous Chef. Manages one subordinate supervisor who supervises a total of 8-10 employees in the Hagerty Center Kitchen. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises 8-10 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
WORK HOURS:
This is a full-time, 12-month position.
