Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist
Position Summary
The Statewide Campus System(SCS) is looking for a Quality Improvement (QI) champion to work with our affiliated hospitals, residents, and faculty to expand QI research. The QI champion will serve as a leader within the SCS team and participate actively, respectfully, and professionally to help residents and faculty design, develop and implement quality improvement projects through data collection, analysis, and interpretation to improve the population health. Further, the specialist will participate and contribute as an active team member in workgroup activities, providing support to meet the needs of our affiliates.
This position will support initiatives aimed to make a difference to patients by improving safety, effectiveness, and care experience by understanding the complexity of the healthcare environment, applying a systematic approach, and designing, testing, and implementing changes using real-time measurements to improve patient care delivery. In addition, the selected individual will foster an environment where researchers and clinicians can work together to improve patient care by building relationships with colleagues in their work environment.
Primary responsibilities for this position include but not limited to:
Guides the development and support of opportunities by developing and maintaining relationships with QI officers, residents, and faculty at affiliated hospitals; Assume full responsibility for executing assigned projects, workgroup activities, support, report development, and research projects within required deadlines and timeframes; Oversee projects and recommends corrective action plans. Co-produces research with our affiliated residents and faculty when needed; Develop a methodology for measuring the effectiveness of the intervention and generate system-level interventions to improve and sustain quality; Collect data and translate intervention to the community''s needs; Conducts effectiveness, outcomes research, and impact evaluation; why and how the change happened (implementation), cost, and sustainability to ensure that the evidence produced will be more relevant to stakeholders; Provide content area expertise on as-needed and/or requested to support the needs of our residents and affiliated faculty.
Designs project work plans and provide continual status updates as evidenced by completion of project tracking tools, including but not limited to documenting tasks, progress, obstacles/barriers, resolution, responsible parties, resources, start date, projected and actual completion date, ongoing project status (i.e., In-Process, Completed, Approved; Results Based Accountability; or other similar systems); Develops reports and research projects to produce the highest quality analysis and output in the most efficient manner for assigned projects and tasks; Able to review processes within the organization, assist with data collection, and analyze where changes should be enacted to improve patient care; Enters information into databases and tracks, analyzes, and reports on data; Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Communicates regularly or as project activities require with the Assistant Dean, partners, and professional network groups; Builds collaborative relationships with community partners to connect participants with necessary resources and professional development opportunities; Attend staff meetings and training as required; Presents recommendations and strategies to decision makers that are systematic, scalable, and incorporate technology solutions.
Conducts orientation and training sessions and develops ''learning communities to support programs meeting their goals; Analyzes community quality data, identify opportunities, develops and implements training or action plans for quality improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements
• Minimum Master''s degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in QI research and methodology, including statistical methods, Shewhart charts, driver diagrams, and the ability to assess evidence change
• Knowledge and experience with QI implementation in a healthcare system, including PDSA cycle
• Familiar with root cause analysis.
• Demonstrates competencies in the delivery of technical assistance, on-site consultation, and mentoring.
• Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills
• Strong organization and caseload management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
• Ability to listen and respond to others with insight, diplomacy, and respect.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Zoom.
• Ability to promote a culture of partnership to co-identify appropriate methods and data collection to understand and disseminate implementation strategies
• Ability to work collaboratively with QI officers and residents at local hospitals to align project goals and joint planning and agree on the purposes and uses of the results
• Able to identify performance gaps and implement improvement interventions to address the problems.
• Familiar with process improvement using incremental, cyclically implemented changes appropriate to the local context
Desired Qualifications
• Ph.D. or related terminal degree
• Five years of experience with QI data, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and implementation
• Related hospital/clinical QI experience
