Position involves preparing for and teaching courses in Phlebotomy in order to achieve course requirements and student success outcomes. Course assignments may occur in a classroom setting, learning lab, or contracted facility. 

Specific instruction to include teaching the Phlebotomy curriculum as assigned which may include lecture and laboratory skills training. Responsibilities include the review of lesson plans and preparation for class instruction, grade and record assignments, actively promoting student retention, and performing related work as required.

1. Teaches assigned classroom courses.
2. Develops and updates syllabi for courses assigned and ensures course content and requirements meet the requirements of college and accreditation agencies.
3. Attends and facilitates the student orientations for incoming students.
4. Develops appropriate assessment tools to determine course effectiveness and assures that student outcomes are achieved.
5. Assesses student academic achievement and provides students with timely and meaningful feedback on progress in the course(s).
6. Maintains and reports appropriate classroom records, to include student attendance and grades.
7. Holds appropriate office hours for meeting with and assisting students.
8. Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service programs within the department and college-wide; serves on college committees as encouraged/assigned.
9. Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, and student service initiatives.
10. Maintains contact with the students of the program upon completion of the course to gather and maintain job placement information.
11. Adheres to the policies, procedures, and compliance guidelines of the college. Ensures all communications and practices demonstrate support of the Ethics for Teaching Professionals.
12. Conducts onsite visits to students at clinical sites.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Knowledge of course content and learning objectives of assigned course(s).
• Ability to develop and effectively deliver course content/objectives and facilitate an effective learning environment for students to maximize their success.
• Multidisciplinary focus and ability to align teaching with the broader goals and objectives of the college.
• Knowledge of computer and educational technology and ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom.
• Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working in a close, collaborative manner with other faculty and administration.

Education, Certification, Licensure:

• Phlebotomy Technician Certification, (ASCP preferred) OR, must maintain active certification. ASCP Certifications awarded after 2004 will remain valid for a period of three years. In order to maintain certification, must complete the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) every three years. If alternate certification and for those ASCP certified before 2004, must complete at least one laboratory related CEU per year.
• Certification in Medical Technology or Laboratory Science OR, must maintain active certification. ASCP Certifications awarded after 2004 will remain valid for a period of three years. In order to maintain certification, must complete the Certification Maintenance Program (CMP) every three years. If alternate certification and for those ASCP certified before 2004, must complete at least one laboratory related CEU per year.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field.
  

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 year experience as a Phlebotomist or in a related healthcare field is required.
• Previous experience in a community college environment preferred.

Working Environment:

• The job responsibilities of this position are performed in an office, classroom and community areas which requires a professional image and demeanor, on-time attendance and reliability.
• The environment has minimal, if any, discomfort due to heat, cold or dust. There is minimal noise within the environment.
• There may be occasional travel to other college locations for meetings and moderate travel to clinical sites.
• There may be occasional travel for conferences/training.
• Duties are performed in an independent atmosphere without close direct supervision.
• The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (5- 45 pounds).
• Must meet reasonable and sometimes shifting deadlines, quotas, or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some unpleasant situations.
• Course assignments may be off campus, and may include both day and night classes when applicable.
• Training including job shadow, will occur with a current Mid Phlebotomy Instructor and mentoring from that trainer will be available for the first year of employment.
