Job Description/ Responsibilities
As a Gas Field Leader in Transmission Pipeline/Storage Operations, you will be responsible for the safe and productive execution of the Gas Operations and Maintenance plan, including operations and maintenance on Transmission/Storage facilities and regulatory programs out of the St. Clair Headquarters in Ira Township, MI. The selected candidate will also be responsible for construction activities, including reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics, pipeline integrity, welding procedures and practices, as well as leading team preparation and execution of written operating procedures.
The selected candidate must be able to collaborate with peers and supporting departments to create/maintain a work environment that supports each other to reach common goals of safety and health initiatives, compliance programs, and productivity. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Provide direct supervision to 8 to 15 union employees and participate in supervisory on-call responsibilities
- Leading and providing technical expertise to Gas Operation and Maintenance field employees
- Interacting with internal and external customers
- Directing work activities to meet established work plans and objectives
- Plan and facilitate team and department safety meetings
- Motivate, team-build and problem solve in a competitive business environment by continually encouraging sound employee decision-making
- Utilize strong communication skills and the ability to negotiate sensitive issues
- Develop strong working relationships with Local Union officials
- Provide strong leadership while promoting safe work behaviors
- Willingness to be on-call on a regular basis and work unusual hours through unplanned events is required
- Responsible for managing successful and cost effective headquarter business operations
- Work may also involve managing and monitoring work performed by non-company employees
Requirements/Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 3 years' experience in supervisory roles and/or equivalent combination of education and supervisory in the Natural Gas Utility industry

- Technical knowledge in Natural Gas Utility with a strong mechanical background in maintenance of gas Transmission/Storage or distribution facilities
- A strong knowledge of the working agreement, safe work practices and previous supervisory and demonstrated leadership experience.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
- Trained and experienced in the Incident Command Structure.
- Trained and experienced in Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control.
- Trained and experienced in Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluating and supervision of employees assigned to the operation, maintenance and construction of gas distribution systems, customer gas services, buildings and grounds or utility support areas. Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation, responds to complaints and requests for information, prepares and maintains reports of completed job orders and the status of jobs in progress. Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assure satisfactory completion and plans new assignments, prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required. Conducts regular safety meetings, participates as a member of safety committee; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies. Implements preventative maintenance programs.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the office or specific field locations. Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with gas emergent activities and could be given very short notice to do so. Individual should be willing to participate in the on call rotation in case of potential after hour emergencies. Individual may have to work outside of assigned headquarters to help with gas emergencies which may require overnight stays. Could potentially work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the customer, which may include: evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays and overtime. Individual must have a valid driver's license.
