Position Summary
The Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics seeks a Research Associate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Yong-Hui Zheng. This position will research host restrictions of HIV-1 replication and the mechanism of HIV-1 Env biogenesis. Dr. Zheng and his lab have uncovered the anti-HIV-1 activities of human APOBEC3F, APOBEC3DE, APOBEC3H, and MOV10. Recently, the lab has illustrated the degradation of HIV-1 Env proteins through the ER-associated degradation (ERAD) pathway triggered by ERManI. The lab currently has projects to study the novel functions of the HIV-1 accessory proteins Nef and Vpr in counteracting host restrictions, as well as translational research projects of developing novel anti-HIV compounds.
The position requires a strong background in virology with cell biology and molecular biology expertise including:
• Cell culture
• Molecular cloning
• CRISPR/Cas9
• Protein-protein interactions
• Mass spectrometry
• Flow cytometry
• Fluorescence microscopy
• RNA-seq
