Department Summary
The position reports within the Generation Operations Gas Compression & Storage Technician Department of Generation Operation and Compression. The Field Technician role provides support and maintenance for the Natural Gas Compression, Distribution, Storage, and Transmission systems. The "Natural Gas System" incorporates a wide variety of communication systems, functional controls, instrumentation, and measurement components integrated into a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
This position will support Muskegon river, Marion Storage, and Northern Michigan M&R.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Technician accepts the responsibility and demonstrates the ability to successfully plan, perform, and document periodic MGSS (Michigan Gas Safety Standards) Code Work orders; complete SOX (Witnessing) Inspections, along with performing required testing in accordance with maintenance programs within Generation Operations and Compression. Aid with job planning, completion of required systems documentation, perform system checkout functions, and provide technical assistance as required to support the completion of construction projects while functioning alone or while directing other Technicians as necessary.
The Technician will have the ability to successfully analyze complex hardwired systems and end devices along with providing programming expertise required to maintain a: Typical compressor station Transmission valve site Distribution metering system During the testing process the Technician will be required to analyze, diagnose, design tests, and provide a recommended solution by means of troubleshooting.

Requirements/Qualifications
- Two-year associate degree in the requisite scientific or technical field (48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis) is required.

Essential Functions
Maintains and troubleshoots electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment for plant, electric and gas distribution and transmission systems. Repairs, calibrates and/or programs electronic components. Repairs and/or replaces transfer switchgear for generators, motor control panels, pump controls, valves, cables, and adjustable frequency drives. Resolves computer problems with process control software. Operates and maintains electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments, and software in performance of assigned duties, specifically: computers, volt meters, amp meters, electrical tools, electronic tools, and telemetering, and process control software. Receives reports, electrical diagrams, and correspondence; reviews, processes, or maintains documentation for reference. Consults with manufacturers' service technicians, contractors, and vendor representatives to discuss problems, schedule installs, and evaluate costs for necessary parts, supplies, or repairs. Performs other related duties as required. Reviews, edits, develops, manages, and interprets documents and drawings utilized for the purposes of maintaining, constructing, testing, and removing equipment and facilities for plant, electric, and gas distribution and transmission systems. Makes design decisions with regard to electronic, electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural aspects of equipment and facilities utilized for plant, electric, and gas distribution and transmission. Consults with supervisors, operators, technicians, manufacturers, vendors, subject matter experts and engineers to review assigned area needs, discuss problems, prioritize work, and provide technical expertise. Regular attendance is expected.
