Job Description Summary | Position assists business clients to start new businesses, grow and improve operations of existing small businesses. Areas of assistance may include strategic planning, process improvement, financial analysis, loan preparation, market diversification, human resources, and organizational leadership. |
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) | 1. Help business clients initiate, grow and improve operations. Areas of assistance may include strategic planning, process improvement, financial analysis, loan preparation, market diversification, human resources, and organizational leadership. 2. Build and maintain substantial portfolio of high potential clients. 3. Stay abreast of federal, state, and regional economic development initiatives and support programs. Help client best utilize these programs as well as strategic private sector partners. 4. Represent the SBDC and support initiation, growth, and maintenance of stakeholder relationships. 5. Maintain documentation as required by the SBDC and its funding sources, timely. 6. Stay abreast of full SBDC network initiatives and programming and collaborate with management and staff to advance the program and serve clients. 7. Facilitate business workshops on topics relevant to client base. 8. Sr Business Consultant will work out of a home office and will connect with clients, remotely and travel for on-site visits. 9. Other duties as assigned. 10. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. 11. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives |
Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements) | Bachelor’s degree with concentration in business or related field, preferably accounting, marketing, or business administration. |
Required Experience (minimum requirements) | 5 years of business leadership, management, or consulting experience. Must have small business experience either working in family business, or having own business. |
Desirable Education and/or Experience | Strong preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Finance, Financial Analysis, and Organization Development. MBA or equivalent. Prior consulting experience with second stage companies. Demonstrated knowledge of the industries driving the Michigan economy. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities (minimum requirements) | Able to self manage time and scheduling. Able to work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff. |
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities | Able to speak publicly. Able to create and present educational information to groups. |
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands | Must be able to work in a home-based office. Must be able to travel away from home as needed for state activities. Must live in or be willing to relocate to the counties served by this position. |
