Responsible for design and commissioning systems of electrical and fluid controls for a variety of applications including welders, robots, assembly, conveyance and transfer systems at a project level. Manage projects from quoting phase to commissioning and direct controls engineering staff in successful implementation of project assignments. Liaise with the customer, internal functions and subcontractors to ensure successful execution of the project. Understand customer specifications (corporate and plant), standards, and local and/or national electric codes for use in designing hardware schematics and software programs. Estimate content and labor costs for proposals and engineering change quotes. Review as sold Project Breakdown Structure (PBS). Work with Project Planner during P3 phase to create project timeline for controls tasks from critical project milestones provided by project management. Analyze scope of work during P3 phase to develop manpower plan required to complete project within time constraints defined in project timeline. Review the engineering make/buy strategy. Create RFQ scope of work contents for outsourced design. Request necessary resources to establish design and debug / commissioning team from Controls Engineering Manager. Review Lessons Learned from previous projects. Coordinate and delegate work assignments for design team members throughout design phase. Maintain project schedule by monitoring and reporting project progress / status. Continuously monitor Project scope of work and budget performance. Interface with customer to finalize design requirements, reviews, and approvals throughout design phase. Review and update Project Open Issues List. Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems. Define, review and update Project Risk and Opportunities. Monitor and forecast Project cost to complete (CTC). Update Controls Manager (Planning) with manpower / cost projections as changes occur. Coordinate with PM and/or Site Installation Manager on build / integration / commissioning plan. Coordinate work assignments for debug / commissioning team members. Review and update project performance KPI reports - actual cost/costs to complete – progress. Identify and document added/reduced scope of work with potential impact on resource workload, timing and costs. Define the technical solution to meet the change requirements and consider the best strategy for implementing the change. Develop execution plan for the change activities and establish the timing (duration) to execute the change. Monitor and update the status of the engineering change activities for each phase, e.g. progress, forecasted completion date, open issues (if required), etc.
